Layer-Cake Desert Walkthrough
Welcome to World 2: Layer-Cake Desert in New Super Mario Bros. U — a challenging desert world filled with shifting sands, Pokeys, and hidden paths.

Stone-Eye Zone
- Star Coin 1: Easy to spot. Jump from the stone face platform to reach it.
- Star Coin 2: Use the Super Acorn to fly up the palm tree after the checkpoint. Enter the pipe and activate the P-Switch.
- Star Coin 3: Harder to reach. Either ride the sand geyser, throw a Koopa shell, or use Pink Baby Yoshi to float safely.
Perilous Pokey Cave
- Star Coin 1: Floating above sand geysers.
- Star Coin 2: Activate a hidden block between Pokeys, wall jump to the ceiling path.
- Star Coin 3: Use Yoshi to reach a pipe in the ceiling and bounce off Pokeys.
Fire Snake Cavern
- Star Coin 1: At the beginning above two platforms.
- Star Coin 2: Under a long platform, activate P-Switch.
- Star Coin 3: Enter pipe near Fire Bros.
Stoneslide Tower
- Star Coin 1: Rotate the wheel to reveal it.
- Star Coin 2: Rotate second wheel and run left quickly.
- Star Coin 3: After checkpoint, enter hidden wall and pipe.
Spike’s Spouting Sands
- Star Coin 1: Lower path between two Spikes.
- Star Coin 2: Hidden vine near geyser before checkpoint.
- Star Coin 3: Enter hidden pipe, use Mini Mushroom.
- Secret Exit: Hidden pipe behind breakable block.
Piranha Plants on Ice
- Star Coin 1: Enter pipe quickly before it gets blocked.
- Star Coin 2: Wall jump between ice blocks.
- Star Coin 3: Follow top ice path.
Dry Desert Mushrooms
- Star Coin 1: On lower platform.
- Star Coin 2: Between Spikes after checkpoint.
- Star Coin 3: Use POW Block to drop it onto platform.
Blooming Lakitus
- Star Coin 1: Easy jump.
- Star Coin 2: Use Lakitu cloud to reach pipe.
- Star Coin 3: Throw shell through wheels to clear enemies.
Morton’s Compactor Castle
- Star Coin 1: Jump across moving platforms above lava.
- Star Coin 2: Wall jump near green pipe.
- Star Coin 3: Drop through holes onto platform.
