Luigi’s Mansion has a total of 10 Gold Mice. If you vacuum up one of them with the Poltergust 3000, it leaves a large amount of money and is therefore particularly important for the highest possible rank at the end of the game.
Important: The rooms in which the Gold Mice appear must not yet be lit. Once you have defeated all the ghosts of a room and the lights on, the Gold Mice can no longer appear there.
The 10 gold mice are divided into 5 mice in cheese pieces and 5 randomly appearing gold mice.
Gold Mice in pieces of cheese
Five gold mice hide in special pieces of cheese.
Once you have discovered such a piece of cheese, you investigate it with the Testing mode of the Game Boy Horror.
Then the Gold Mouse appears.
Now you have to react quickly: immediately switch back to normal mode and soak the mouse with the Poltergust.
If she escapes, that’s no problem. Leave the room and enter it again. Then you can examine the cheese again and start a new attempt.

Randomly Appearing Gold Mice
The remaining 5 Gold Mice do not hide in cheese. They may appear randomly upon entering certain rooms or hallways.
Here, too, the following applies: The respective area must not yet be fully illuminated or completed.
If the mouse does not appear immediately, you simply leave the area and enter it again. Repeat until the Gold Mouse shows up.

Tips for the Gold Mice
- Search for the gold mice always before the respective room is illuminated.
- In the case of the cheese pieces, you have to change particularly quickly on the Poltergustful path after testing.
- Escape a cheese-gold mouse, leave the room and try again.
- The random Gold Mice may require several attempts.
- Keep the horrible path ready if possible so that you can vacuum the mouse immediately.
All 10 Gold Mice found? Then you have fully exhausted one of the main additional sources of money in Luigi’s Mansion and are much closer to a high rank at the end of the game.
