World 2

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island guide hub

Follow World 2 in the original SNES version of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. Finish each course with thirty stars, twenty red coins and five flowers for one hundred points. Collect all three requirements in the same clear; separate attempts do not combine their counts.

The full-size maps below show the course branches and collectible positions. Open a map to inspect a narrow passage, and open the accompanying video when you need to see a timed jump in motion.

World 2-1 — Visit Koopa And Para-Koopa

Use the first pipe to explore the Super Baby Mario section rather than passing it for the ordinary route. Follow its wall-and-ceiling coin trail and collect the flower before the transformation ends. Back outside, let the falling rocks land before using them as steps to the high ledges.

In Poochy’s spike passage, stay on his back while collecting the low coins. The crate and key there serve the optional mini-battle; do not confuse that door with the way to the goal. Search the vertical spaces around the falling stones before moving through the next opening.

The final section crosses unstable islands and raised coin groups. Shoot red-coin Fly Guys promptly, and use Flutter Jumps from stable land to collect the items above the gaps. The falling rocks are both hazards and stepping stones: leaving a high coin pocket behind can make a return awkward.

World 2-2 — The Baseball Boys

Green Gloves catch eggs and throw them back; Sluggers bat them away. Use the opening arrow clouds and vine route to reach the Super Baby Mario passage over spikes. Collect the coins there before returning to the ordinary route.

After the Middle Ring, a Slugger guards a flower cloud beneath a long wooden platform. Shoot just over its bat to open the cloud, then send another egg to collect the flower. At the Green Glove guarding a low red coin, throw an egg horizontally from the left, then move to ground level on the right, near the red arrow. Its return throw collects the coin through the narrow passage.

Continue into the caves and search above and below the direct path. The Mole Tank section has collectible pockets off the shortest route to the Yoshi Block. Dig those out before ending the transformation; a straight dash to the exit leaves red coins behind.

World 2-3 — What’s Gusty Taste Like?

Cross the Gusty-filled forest while breaking the soft-rock pockets around the route. Hit the hidden switch cloud and inspect the indicated floor entrance before moving into the cave. In the cave, eggs clear the fragile material without forcing you to fall past its upper branches.

After the Middle Ring, use the Super Baby Mario section to collect the high coin trail. In the large mass of breakable rock, search the left side for the concealed switch. Activate it and press Down at the blinking red arrow to enter a side room containing red coins. That detour is required for a complete collection.

Clear the flower pocket beside the soft rock, then explore the Mole Tank passage before returning to the main cave. Its key opens a mini-battle rather than the goal. Use the last Chomp Rock to cross the remaining obstruction and check both sides of its route before leaving.

World 2-4 — Bigger Boo’s Fort

Enter the early side room with two Big Boos. Face away so a Boo uncovers its face, then bank an egg off the opposite wall to hit it from behind. Defeat both for a flower. Before shooting staircase clouds, search below them: the resulting steps can block the low route until you leave and re-enter the room.

Collect the switch-room key and examine the ledges around the locked passage. After riding the log over lava, break the cracked ceiling, climb up and head left into the hidden room. Hit a Boo Balloon three times to make it drop a switch; activate that switch and reach the flower in the upper-left corner.

Bigger Boo follows the same rule as the smaller Boos. Face away, keep enough space between Yoshi and the ghost, then ricochet eggs from the wall into its uncovered face. Direct shots while it hides behind its hands do not work. Reset your distance as it grows.

World 2-5 — Watch Out For Lakitu

Use the early platforms to approach Lakitu from below and clear the coin groups around the pipes. When you reach the crate containing the key, push it onto solid ground before ground-pounding it. Breaking it above the gap can make the key much harder to recover.

Open the locked door and complete the Train route inside; its flower makes this a scoring detour rather than an optional mini-battle. Before taking the checkpoint, search above the vine and switch route for the remaining side-area coins.

Beyond the Middle Ring, ground-pound the wooden posts and check the lower spaces around the platforms. Shoot the red-coin Fly Guys before they leave. Some apparent background plants conceal enemies, so approach the bushes carefully rather than landing in them with Baby Mario already separated.

World 2-6 — The Cave Of The Mystery Maze

The cave branches vertically through soft-rock walls. Clear the upper pockets before dropping into the next shaft, then return along the lower route for the coins you could see from above. Several doors are concealed behind breakable material rather than standing in the open.

From the lower floor, look upward for the soft-rock patch hiding a side door. Inside, defeat all four Lantern Ghosts to reveal a flower and red coins. Continue through the arrow-cloud area and use the Spring Ball to search the high passage before leaving this part of the maze.

The optional key opens a mini-battle, but the concealed room and high cave branches are part of the collectible route. After the Middle Ring, move quickly across Countdown Platforms and watch the Spray Fish before committing to a jump. Use the map to check the branches on both sides of the main shaft before crossing the goal.

World 2-7 — Lakitu’s Wall

Bounce from a Fat Guy to reach the early high flower and coin pocket. Ground-pound the posts as you climb; the upper route alone does not collect the coins buried inside them. Use eggs on the fragile walls and check the door by the Tap-Tap for its flower.

Continue past the crushing rocks, waiting for a safe opening before entering a narrow space. A concealed switch in the upper clouds opens another route into the dirt; search the second pit for a flower before leaving it behind.

The transformations near the end cover different heights. As Car Yoshi, collect the low route before reaching the helicopter section. During the flight, inspect the raised openings, then check the ground beside the Yoshi Block before advancing. Transforming does not automatically collect the items beneath the fastest route.

World 2-8 — The Potted Ghost’s Castle

Break both key-bearing flowerpots during the castle route. From the roof pipe, follow the lava ferries, paddle wheel and thorn passages, entering the upper Train pipe before returning to the main route.

In the sewer section, the lower-left route with bomb-dropping Boo Guys leads to a pot containing a key. Explore the right-hand spike lifts as well. The later room has a flower beside two Burts at the lower right, a Middle Ring above-left and a paddle-wheel route above-right. Clear its thorn obstruction to reach the next door. A further pot guarded by Bandits supplies the other key.

Roger the Potted Ghost is defeated by pushing his pot off the right edge. Move against its left side whenever the blue flames and helper Shy-Guys leave an opening. Retreat enough to dodge the flames, then resume pushing; eggs are not the main attack. Avoid being pushed off the opposite edge while trying to recover Baby Mario.
