Lava Pit contains 61 chests: 55 collectible or Power Orb chests and six weapon chests. This route also includes the two additional chests beside its travel cannon at Peach’s Castle, for 63 entries. The castle-side rewards are separate from the world’s own total.
For a complete return visit, defeat Mega Dragon Bowser to unlock Beep-0’s Dig ability. You also need the exploration abilities earned in the earlier worlds. Follow the areas below in order; chest numbers are this guide’s route labels, while numbered artwork, models and music refer to their Museum entries.
A red-ring reward requires all eight red coins before time expires. A blue bonus cannon starts a separate timed course. If either attempt fails, start it again; opening a weapon chest unlocks the weapon for purchase in Battle HQ, so equip it after buying it.
Pencil Plaza — chests 1–16
1 — Lava Hopper – 3D model 35
Before crossing the first Lava Pit bridge, check the left corner of the starting platform.
2 — Lava Ziggy – 3D model 34
Return with Dig and Move. Across the first bridge, take the left side, clear the rubble and push the block down to form a crossing. Dig through the next obstruction to reach the model.
3 — Into the Pit – Soundtrack 33
Use the cannon beside chest 2. Take the pipe on its far side to the remote soundtrack platform.
4 — 10 Power Orbs
Return by pipe and cannon. In the next large section, take the short branch on the left.
5 — Remote Hog – Tarot Card 4
Before the wooden bridge into the next arena, explore the left turn in that same open section.
6 — Combat in the Cemetery – Soundtrack 30
Cross to the opposite side of the square and follow the second short branch to its end.
7 — A Stroll in the Cemetery – Soundtrack 31
Cross the first battlefield and smash the cluster of cracked crates and blocks on the next platform’s left side.
8 — Blubbernaught – Tarot Card 11
Smash the cracked obstacles on the opposite side to uncover red. Activate the switch, take the cannon and then the pipe beyond its landing.
9 — 5 Power Orbs
Enter the pipe behind chest 8. Descend on the other side and break the wooden obstruction in the corner.
10 — Lava Smasher – 3D model 36
Cross the next battlefield and the wooden bridge beside the lava falls. Use the green-marked ledge on the right to climb down to the chest and cannon.
11 — Gymbecile – Tarot card 8
Follow the story route through the huge Rabbid-mouth entrance. Smash the crates just beyond it to reveal the chest.
12 — Ballistic Mystic – weapon for Rabbid Peach
Activate the red ring beside that crate-filled section. Collect all eight red coins to unlock Rabbid Peach’s weapon.
13 — Phantom’s Theme – Soundtrack 32
Return to the red-ring starting point, smash the block in front of the pipe and take the pipe to its silver chest.
14 — Bwaaahr Machines – Artwork 27
Return through that pipe and continue along the main route. In the section with a large ring of coins, inspect the left corner.
15 — Lava Valkyrie – 3D model 37
Descend to the next platform and circle behind the house-like structure. Gather the coins there and enter the building for the model chest.
16 — Interplanetary Outhouse – Tarot Card 18
After the next arena, solve the statue-and-colored-block puzzle. Match the floor’s reference pattern, set the statue on its pedestal and use the activated cannon.
Minecart Mayhem — chests 17–25
17 — The Mine – Artwork 22
Follow the long tunnel into the crate-filled mine puzzle. Use its colored switches to move the ordinary block first onto green, then across yellow and finally onto the red plate, changing platform heights as needed.
18 — The King – Weapon for Peach
In that same mine puzzle, complete the red-ring course and collect all eight coins for Peach’s weapon.
19 — Mushroom Marauder – Weapon for Rabbid Mario
Finish the blue-coin cannon challenge in the same section for Rabbid Mario’s weapon.
20 — 10 Power Orbs
Cross the later Challenge 1 battlefield. On the next platform, smash the lower-right cluster of blocks to reveal blue and raise the chest platform.
21 — Sombrero Vaquero – Tarot card 1
Explore the opposite side of that platform and smash the blocks hiding the tarot chest.
22 — Lava Buckler – 3D Model 38
With Dig, clear the route beside the movable block overlooking the lower level. Push the block down, then climb down by the green-marked ledge to the model.
23 — Burning Butt – Tarot Card 15
On the lower level, dig out the route and push the dropped block onto red. Take the activated cannon.
24 — 10 Power Orbs
After that cannon trip, enter the pipe. Dig and smash through the obstacles beyond it to reach the Power Orbs.
25 — 5 Power Orbs
Take the cannon onward, cross the colored-platform puzzle and pass the Challenge 2 area. Follow the long tunnel to the three dig spots, clear the rubble and smash the single block in front of the chest.
Factory Floor and The Clandestine Cave — chests 26–51
26 — Smithy – Artwork 23
At Factory Floor, smash the block obstructing its first pipe. In the crate-filled storage section beyond, clear the obstacles hiding the artwork.
27 — The Forge Battle – Soundtrack 34
Keep smashing the crates in the same storage section. The soundtrack is only a few steps from chest 26.
28 — Lava Spooky Peek-a-Boo – 3D model 40
Pass the Challenge 3 area to the rotating-pipe tower. Use blue and yellow to align the platforms with the side landing that holds the model chest.
29 — 5 Power Orbs
After the rotating pipes and following battle, dig out the route beside the movable block. Push it onto red and use the activated cannon.
30 — Lava Supporter – 3D model 39
Open the Supporter model beside chest 29 on that cannon’s landing platform.
31 — Yoshi – 3D model 42
Take the pipe immediately beside those two chests. It reaches Yoshi’s model and opens a shortcut.
32 — Cart Blanche – Tarot Card 7
Return toward this section’s first cannon and look beside it. The tarot chest is accessible without entering the next puzzle.
33 — Hilarious Accident – Tarot Card 17
Continue to the next platform and check beside its blue bonus cannon.
34 — Peeper Reaper – weapon for Mario
Enter the blue-coin course beside chest 33 and collect every coin within the timer.
35 — Mecha Prototype – Artwork 24
In the large pipe maze, rotate the colored connections to reach the lower-left branch.
36 — Exploring the Mine – Soundtrack 35
Reconfigure the same pipe puzzle toward the lower-right branch for its second chest.
37 — 20 Power Orbs
Rotate the connections again, this time toward the far rear branch across the maze, for the Power Orbs.
38 — 20 Power Orbs
After the pipe maze, cross the large battlefield to the block puzzle. Mirror the fixed reference arrangement with your movable blocks, including the block that must be pushed to the lower level.
39 — Heart of Darkness – Soundtrack 36
In the following puzzle of shifting platform rows, align the blue platforms into a continuous path toward the chest on the left.
40 — Mecha Jr. – 3D model 41
Carry the statue across that same platform puzzle to the red pedestal. It lowers the wall in front of Mecha Jr.’s model.
41 — Reaper of Moles – Tarot Card 13
Continue to the movable block obstructing a left-hand pipe. Push it down, enter the pipe and reposition the block on the far side to expose the next pipe.
42 — Lava Boss V0 – Artwork 26
Follow the remaining pipe route and use Dig to clear the rubble at its end.
43 — Mushroom Tunnel – Artwork 25
Enter the next pipe and smash the cracked blocks obstructing its reward platform.
44 — Gobblegoose – weapon for Peach
Return to the main path and cross the later Challenge 6 battlefield. Complete the blue-coin cannon at the bottom of the descending ramp.
45 — 5 Power Orbs
Return with Dig and Move to the side route near the long corridor beyond Chapter 4-6. Clear the rubble and push blocks into the gaps to form the approach to Chapter 4-S, The Clandestine Cave. The chest is at the entrance before its first battle.
46 — Lava Queen – 3D Model 45
After the first fortress-section battle, follow the path upward to the block that can be pushed down. The model chest is beside it.
47 — Megabug – 3D model 47
Win the second fortress encounter and continue to the next platform. The Megabug chest is on the main route.
48 — Bowser’s Theme – Soundtrack 40
Behind chest 47, use the green-marked ledges to climb down through the lower platforms. Check the intermediate landing for the soundtrack.
49 — Bowser’s Castle – Artwork 28
In the statue-and-block puzzle, take the statue down to yellow first. Push the block farther down, retrieve that same statue and place it on blue to open the three-chest reward area.
50 — 20 Power Orbs
Open the Power Orb chest beside the Bowser’s Castle artwork in that opened area.
51 — Mega Dragon Bowser – 3D model 46
Open the third chest beside chest 50 before leaving the fortress section.
Uphill Lava Trail — chests 52–61
52 — Life Bwaaah – Tarot Card 20
Continue through the huge Rabbid mouth onto Uphill Lava Trail. The tarot chest is at the section’s beginning.
53 — Loud Talker – Tarot Card 5
With Dig and Move, clear the rubble beside chest 52 and push the exposed block onto red. Use the cannon that becomes available.
54 — Theme with No Name 1 – Soundtrack 37
Cross the following battlefields to the damaged-pipe puzzle. Smash the first cracked block obstructing the main route to reveal the soundtrack.
55 — Bwaluigi – 3D model 44
In that same pipe section, open the visible Bwaluigi model chest before changing the puzzle further.
56 — Bwario – 3D model 43
Smash the section’s cracked blocks, push the remaining movable block down and activate gray. Enter the exposed pipe for Bwario’s model.
57 — Blooper Shooter – weapon for Yoshi
Back in the cleared pipe area, complete the red-ring course for Yoshi’s weapon.
58 — Pottymouth – Tarot Card 3
Follow the story route to the large gate puzzle that moves a block across several levels. Check the upper level for the tarot chest.
59 — Theme with No Name 2 – Soundtrack 38
Finish the gate puzzle and pass through its opened passage. The soundtrack chest is immediately before the next arena.
60 — 20 Power Orbs
Beyond the first battle of the next chapter, solve the final large block enclosure. Open the route into its rear-left corner beside the healing Mushroom.
61 — Theme with No Name 3 – Soundtrack 39
Open the final world soundtrack chest just before the entrance to Bowser’s fortress.
Peach’s Castle — chests 62–63
62 — Spawny – 3D model 48
After progressing through World 4, return to its travel cannon at Peach’s Castle. Spawny’s model is in the castle-side entrance area.
63 — Renegade Rabbid – weapon for Yoshi
Complete the red-ring course near the Lava Pit travel cannon. Collect all eight coins around the castle-side route to unlock Yoshi’s additional weapon.
