In Super Mario Bros. 3 you can make a secret white mushroom house appear in several worlds. To do this, you have to collect a set number of coins in a certain level.
If you complete the respective coin requirement, a white mushroom house will then appear on the world map. A particularly valuable item awaits inside, for example a P-wing or an anchor.
All white mushroom houses at a glance
| World | level | Required coins | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| World 1 | 1-4 | 44 coins | Shortly before the goal there is a block with 10 coins. |
| World 2 | 2-2 | 30 coins | Use the P Switch to turn blocks into coins. |
| World 3 | 3-8 | 44 coins | Collect as many coins as possible in the level. |
| World 4 | 4-2 | 22 coins | With P Switch and Star the coins are easier to reach. |
| World 5 | 5-5 | 28 coins | Pay attention to all coin groups in the level. |
| World 6 | 6-7 | 78 coins | Significantly lighter with P Switch and ability to fly. |
| World 7 | 7-2 | 46 coins | A frog suit helps enormously in the water. |
World 1-4: Unlock White Mushroom House
In World 1-4 you have to collect at least 44 coins. Pay particular attention to the area just before the target. There is a block there from which you can get several coins using the raccoon tail.
This 10-coin block is important if you want to reliably achieve the target. Collect all the visible coins beforehand and use the block just before the goal before you end the level.

World 2-2: Unlock White Mushroom House
In World 2-2 you need at least 30 coins. First collect all easily accessible coins in the water area.
Then swim back and activate the P Switch. This will turn certain blocks into coins. Afterwards, hurry up so you can collect the coins before the effect ends.

World 3-8: Unlock White Mushroom House
In World 3-8 you have to collect at least 44 coins. Since the coin requirement is quite high, you shouldn’t complete the level too quickly.
Take your time, collect all coin groups and check the areas thoroughly before moving on to the objective.

World 4-2: Unlock White Mushroom House
In World 4-2 you need at least 22 coins. The easiest way to do this is with the P Switch.
Activate the P Switch and shortly afterwards grab the star from the block. With the star you can run more safely through the section and collect the coins faster.

World 5-5: Unlock White Mushroom House
In World 5-5 you need at least 28 coins. The requirement is not extremely high, but you still shouldn’t leave out larger groups of coins.
Play the level calmly and pay particular attention to hidden or harder-to-reach coins. If you go through too quickly, you can easily miss the required number.

World 6-7: Unlock White Mushroom House
In World 6-7 you have to collect at least 78 coins. This is one of the more demanding specifications for a white mushroom house.
The P switch is particularly important here. Activate it and then fly up as quickly as possible to collect the transformed coins. It becomes even easier with a P-wing, as it makes it much easier for you to reach the upper areas.

World 7-2: Unlock White Mushroom House
In World 7-2 you need at least 46 coins. Since the level takes place a lot in water, the frog suit is very helpful.
With the frog suit you swim faster and with more control. This makes it much easier for you to collect the coins in the water and achieve the target more reliably.
