Yoshi is much more than an ordinary mount in Super Mario Sunshine. He can devour opponents, dissolve certain obstacles with his juice and turn some opponents into moving platforms. Several Shine Sprite and Blue Coins can only be reached after Yoshi has been unlocked.
Unlock Yoshi in Delfino Plaza
Before Yoshi appears on Isla Delfino, you must save the wilted sunflowers in Pinna Park Episode 4. Squirt the supposed Yoshi eggs with water. The Snooza Koopas hidden inside jump out of the ground and try to meet Mario with a ground pound. Dodge and perform a tamper on their unprotected underside.
After saving all the sunflowers and collecting the Shine Sprite, Shadow Mario appears in Delfino Plaza with a Yoshi egg. Follow him and spray him with water until he drops the egg.
The egg then stands on a roof near the large Pianta statue. Above the egg appears the image of a fruit. Get exactly this fruit from one of the market stalls and bring it to the egg. Yoshi hatches as soon as he has eaten the desired fruit.
This is how Yoshi works
Yoshi has a juice supply instead of a water gauge. This empties slowly and additionally with each sprayed juice. Feed Yoshi any fruit to replenish his stock.
If Yoshi touches water, falls into an abyss or completely emptys his juice supply, he disappears. The egg subsequently reappears in its original place.
Yoshi's abilities
