Peach's Castle — Endgame Preparation and More Paper Toads

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam guide hub

After Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario defeat the Bowser Juniors and free Princess Peach and Paper Peach, Bowser’s original castle is no longer recognizable. With powerful engines, Bowser and Papier-Bowser have lifted their castle into the air, creating a new threat. The two princesses are finally back in safety, but the mysterious book is still in Bowser’s possession. Unless we bring it back, the numerous paper dwellers cannot return to their own world. Therefore, the next stage leads us first to Peach’s Castle, where Toadette already has a new idea how Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario could reach the floating castle.

After landing on the Sunbeam Plains you follow the two princesses west to the castle court. Already from the outside you can see that Bowser’s attack has left significant damage. Several walls are damaged and on the ground there are pieces of debris that were not there before. Before entering the castle, you should open the two new? blocks in the courtyard. They contain 50 coins and two ultra fungi. Then use the Heart-Crystal block at the entrance to completely fill up the HP and BP of all three characters and walk through the big door into the palace.

Toadette’s New Plan

In the throne room, Princess Peach, Paper Peach and several Toads have gathered to discuss the next steps. The two Bowsers have moved their castle high in the air, so that even the now learned trio Glider is not enough to reach them directly. Finally, Toadette appears and reports on an idea she developed together with the rescued paper toads. She wants to build a massive structure that allows Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario to reach the floating castle. However, much more helpers are needed for implementation. A total of 230 paper toads will initially be available.

Toadette explains that many inhabitants of the paper world are still missing throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. Some are hiding in the areas already visited, others have again been captured by Koopalings. Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario are to take on more rescue missions and then return to Mount Brrr. From its summit, the floating castle is probably best reached. Before leaving the throne room, Toadette Paper also presents Mario with a new Trio Attack: the Trio Shuriken.

The new Trio Attack: Trio Shuriken

The Trio Shuriken costs 13 BP and is one of the stronger special attacks of Paper Mario. At the beginning of the attack, several of his copies appear on the edge of the battlefield. Press Y so that a copy folds into a large throwing star. Mario or Luigi then takes the Shuriken in hand and can hurl him on the falling Enemies. Move the crosshair with the sliding pad to the desired target. Once the Enemies is targeted, press A for Mario or B for Luigi to complete the roll. Just before the Shuriken reaches the Enemies, press Y again to amplify the hit.

After each successful throw, the other brother takes on the next attack. The sequence therefore consists of alternating inputs with A, B and Y. Make sure that you do not throw the Shuriken too early, but first align the crosshairs exactly on the falling Enemies. The more hits succeed, the stronger the final attack. In the end, the remaining Paper Mario copies combine to form a particularly large Shuriken, while several Enemies fall down at the same time. Wait until they are as close together as possible and throw the big star at the entire group. With clean execution, you can hit several Enemies at the same time and cause significant damage.

The Trio Shuriken is particularly suitable for the coming sections, in which several strong Enemies often occur simultaneously. Since the attack consumes 13 BP, however, you should take enough ultra-syrup glasses with you. You can try the new attack in the next battles against Paper Paragumbas or other Enemies. For a high rating, the right time for the final big Shuriken is crucial.

The last blocks in Peach’s Castle

Before leaving the palace, you should examine the new? blocks that appeared after Bowser’s attack. There are two blocks in the throne room, which together contain 60 coins. Open both and then go back to the large entrance hall. There is another Crystal block with ten coins on the lower level in the northeast. Then you walk through the western exit. In the adjacent room there are two additional? blocks with 50 and ten coins.

Return to the entrance hall and then enter the eastern shopping area. Also here are two new? blocks, which contain ten and 50 coins. Together with the two blocks on the Schlosshof, you have collected all nine new blocks of this palace visit. Since we have to cross the area anyway, it is worth taking them directly.

Then visit the shops in the eastern wing. Dealers now offer stronger equipment, including improved boots and hammers for Mario and Luigi. Particularly interesting are the celebrity boots and celebrity hammers, which are among the better regularly available weapons. Compare their values to your previous equipment and buy the items that actually improve your group. You should also check paper Mario’s clothes, as we will fight several times with strong paper opponents in the coming sections.

In the item store, you can also fill up your stock of ultra-mushrooms, ultra-nuts and ultra-syrup glasses. Especially the ultra-nuts become useful later when several characters suffer damage from the same enemy attack. In the combat card store, it is worth taking a look at stronger support and healing cards. Try putting your deck together so that you can both increase power and restore HP or BP in an emergency. Once you are satisfied with your equipment, you will leave Peach’s Castle through the main entrance.

New paper toad missions at the Lakitu Info Centre

Our next destination is a Lakitu Info Center. You can use any info center that has already been activated, because the new rescue missions can be selected from the common mission overview. From Peach’s Castle, the Info Centre on the Sunbeam Plains is available. Go east from the castle court and follow the familiar path to the next green warp pipe. If you have unlocked a faster connection to one of the Toad villages, you can of course also use it.

In the Info Centre, Lakitu explains to you that several new calls for help have now been received. The tasks take us once again to the Twinsy Tropics, the Gloomy Woods and Mount Brrr. Since Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario now master all the important trio field actions, we can also reach particularly high-altitude or hidden behind narrow obstacles paper toads. Start with paper toads on the sandy beach before devoting yourself to the more complicated missions.

Paper toads on the sandy beach: All 20 paper toads

This rescue mission takes place in the Twinsy Tropics, not far from the village of Toad. In total, you have to collect 20 paper toads, which have initially joined together to form a large stack. As soon as the task begins, the residents run away together from Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario. Activate the sprint socks and track the stack. As soon as you get close enough, you will make a sprint jump. The hit releases four paper toads from the pile and rescues them, while the remaining 16 flee across the nearby bridge.

Follow them over the bridge to the eastern side of the area. The pile runs away from you again. Catch him up with the sprint socks and do another sprint jump. Also this time four paper toads are collected. You have already saved eight residents. The remaining twelve now completely dissolve their stack and are distributed over the adjacent beach area. From this moment on, you must examine the individual hiding places with different trio abilities.

Four paper toads under the board

First, head east to a large round cardboard slab that lies flat on the floor. It is somewhat different from the ordinary paper surfaces of the area, as it is slightly raised on one side. Stand right in front of it and use the Trio Hammer. Through the joint stroke, the plate is turned over and underneath four paper toads come to light. Speak to them or touch them so that they are safe. This increases your rescue level to twelve out of twenty.

Then examine the rock face south of the cardboard plate. There are three more paper toads that press closely against the wall. As soon as you approach them, you can first collect a resident directly. The other two flee further west along the wall. Do not follow them blindly on the upper road, but pass through the southern passage under the bridge. On the other hand, you reach a platform with a marked spot for the Trio Grab. Stand on it and pull the two paper toads over to you as soon as they are within reach.

The Hidden Paper Toad and the Palm

Only five residents are missing. First, return to the western end of the bridge. In the rock formation there is a narrow passageway through which only Paper Mario can slip. Send it through and talk to the hidden paper toad on the other side. You have already found 16 of the 20 inhabitants.

For the last four paper toads, go to western Beach. There is a large paper palm, whose Elder Princess Shroob looks slightly different from the surrounding trees. The four inhabitants have hidden on the palm tree and are hardly recognizable from the ground at first. Put Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario in front of the tribe and hit it with the hammer. Through the blow, all four paper toads are shaken from the tree crown. Collect them and the mission is completed with 20 out of 20 rescued paper toads.

In normal mode, there is no particularly tight time limit for this task. You can therefore work off the locations in peace. In the more difficult variant, the 20 paper toads must be collected within two minutes. For this, it is worth knowing the order of the two stacks, the cardboard plate, the rock face and the palm already from the first passage.

Fly Guy Free Flight: Three Captured Paper Toads

The next mission will take you to the Gloomy Woods. There, several Fly Guys have captured three paper toads and try to escape with their prisoners. In total, you have 13 minutes to save all three residents. Unlike ordinary rescue missions, you must not start unnecessary fights against other Enemies. If an encounter with a normal Enemies is triggered, you cannot escape and the mission is considered a failure. Therefore, focus exclusively on the three Fly Guys with their prisoners and try to avoid the other enemies as large-scale as possible.

The First Fly Guy and the Cardboard Box

From the starting point, first go north and stop at the eastern rock face. There is a large cardboard box that you can turn around with the Trio Hammer. Behind it hides the first Fly Guy. Once you discover him, he flies a little further north and joins a group of other Fly Guys. The Enemies now begin to throw the captured Paper Toad back and forth among themselves. Watch the occupant’s trajectory closely and run to the Fly Guy carrying him. Touch the Enemies to start the fight and defeat them with a strong attack.

After the victory, the first paper toad is freed. During this pursuit, try not to touch the other Fly Guys unnecessarily, provided they are not carrying a prisoner. Otherwise, you will lose valuable time through additional fights.

Catch the second Fly Guy with the Trio Grab

For the second paper toad, you will first go back south to the area where we distributed Kamek with the Kawumm flowers during our first forest visit. There, another Fly Guy with his prisoner hovers over an abyss. Stand on the marked surface for the Trio Grab and try to reach it directly. However, the Fly Guy notices the attack in time and avoids. He then flies to another part of the area, which is protected by a large cardboard projection.

Follow him and use the Trio Hammer to move the cardboard obstacle there. This creates a new position from which you can reach the Fly Guy with the Trio Grab. Stand as close as possible to the mark and wait until the Enemies flies back to your range. Then move it over to you or trigger the fight. After the victory, the second paper toad is also freed.

The Third Fly Guy on the Tree Stumps

The last prisoner can be found further south. There, a Fly Guy first floats over a large block of notes. Mario and Luigi cannot reach him immediately, but Paper Mario fits through a narrow passage nearby. Send it through alone and jump against the pad to start the Fly Guy. He then flies to several raised tree stumps and tries to stay out of reach there.

Return to the group with Paper Mario and find the marked bounce point for the Trio Glider. Take off the flight and head towards the tree stump on which the Fly Guy is currently floating. If necessary, use an additional lift boost to gain enough height. Once you get close enough to the Enemies, you trigger the fight. Defeat the Fly Guy and save the third paper toad. The mission then ends automatically.

The most important difference to an ordinary rescue mission is that you should really only fight the three Enemies needed. The other monsters serve mainly as obstacles. With a clean path across the cardboard box, the trio grave and the glider platform, there is enough time to free all three paper toads within the given 13 minutes.

Ice Cold Caught Paper Toads: Twelve Hidden Places in the Mountain Village

Next is a search mission in the Toad village on Mount Brrr. In total, twelve paper toads hide there, which we have to collect as completely as possible. Unlike many rescue missions to date, this task has a special feature: The hiding places are partly selected randomly. Therefore, the inhabitants are not in exactly the same places in every attempt. Instead of a fixed order, you should systematically search the village and control all possible hiding places. Especially the shops, fir trees, snow areas and the Lakitu Info Center contain several well-hidden residents.

Examine the fir and snow areas

Start in the eastern part of the village with the big fir trees. One of them stands immediately south of the item store. Stand in front of the trunk and use the Trio Hammer to make the tree move vigorously. If a paper toad hides in it, it falls down and can be collected. Another fir stands approximately in the center of the village. Again, you should hit the tribe with the trio hammer. Some paper toads sit so high in the Elder Princess Shroob that they are hardly recognizable from the floor. Therefore, control both trees, even if you do not discover any inhabitants at first.

Then examine the snow areas between the shops. Some paper toads are completely hidden in the snow and can only be recognized by a small striking spot on the ground. Choose the trio drill, dig in at the marked point and perform a drill sprint through the snow pile. This moves the occupant out of his hiding place. If you do not find a toad in this way, check the snow areas next to the paths and directly on the house walls.

Four paper toads behind the equipment store

A particularly important location is behind the shops. First, go to the equipment store and examine the narrow passageway behind the building. There is a group of four paper toads hiding. They often stick very close to the back wall, so you can’t see them from the front of the store. Run completely behind the house and touch the residents one by one. Make sure that paper fuzzies are also hiding in this area. These Enemies can interrupt the search as soon as you touch them. Defeat them if necessary and then collect the remaining Toads.

If the group is not directly behind the equipment store during your attempt, you should also examine the backs of the other commercial buildings. The group of four is one of the recurring components of the mission, but its exact position can change between the possible loading areas.

The hiding places in the Lakitu Info Center

Then enter the Lakitu Info Center and examine the room particularly thoroughly. One of the paper toads can hide on or behind the counter. Another was trapped between several books and magazines stacked near the wall. Speak to the appropriate furnishings or examine them until you find the resident. A rolled-up paper toad can also be hidden in the mailbox of the information center.

Particularly unusual is another hiding place under the cloud of a floating Lakitu. Speak the Lakitu in question normally at first. During the first conversation, he does not necessarily reveal the hidden resident. Therefore, talk to him a second time so that Paper Mario or Starlow becomes aware of the unusual form of his cloud. This brings out the paper toad and is automatically saved.

The two external breasts

Leave the Info Center and go to the Fighting Card Store. On the left or south of it are several posts and a narrow external parapet. One of the paper toads may have wrapped flat around such a post, making it look almost like an ordinary paper decoration from a distance. Examine the parapet and address the eye-catching object. Afterwards you go to the red and white mushroom house west of the Lakitu Info Centre. Also on its outer breast or a nearby post another resident can hide.

If your ad is not yet complete, you should check the other possible hiding places. A paper toad, for example, can serve as a hat of an ordinary toad in the combat card store. Speak to the resident concerned and answer his questions until you can examine the unusual hat more closely. In the wise Toad’s house, a paper dweller can also be stuck in the closet or rolled back and forth like a ball by two blue toads. At the second hiding place, you have to jump at the right moment to capture the curled-up paper toad. Other possible finds include the green warp pipe to the west and a group of ordinary toads south of the card store.

As soon as the task display reports twelve of twelve paper toads, the rescue mission is completed. In the later heavy variant, even 16 residents have to be found within four minutes. For the first passage, however, there is no corresponding time pressure, so that you can search the village completely.

Patrol for the Paper Toads: Fourteen rescues

The fourth major rescue mission also leads to Mount Brrr. This time, there are 14 paper toads in a remote snowy area that has several elevated platforms and sand walls. Some residents are stuck in snowmen or snow hills, others are held captive by flying opponents or float in bubbles over the precipices. Since we now have all trio abilities, we can also collect the hard-to-reach locations. Especially often we need the Trio Glider.

The First Snowman and the Flying Parakoopa

Immediately after the mission launch, head east. There are several snowmen on the roadside. One of them contains the first paper toad. Stand in front of the suspicious Snowman and strike against it twice with the trio Hammer. On the second hit, it breaks completely and the occupant comes to light. Collect it and follow the path further east.

Shortly afterwards, you recognize a paper parakoopa carrying a paper toad high above the ground. With a normal jump you can not reach it. Therefore, look for the violet jump point nearby and start the Trio Glider. Steer towards the parakoopa and use a lift if necessary to gain enough altitude. Once you touch the captured paper toad, it will be freed and you can land on the next platform. Two residents have already been rescued.

The Snow Pile and the Gear Wall

Then go to the next area and use the Trio Tomb to pull over the marked water or rock gap. On the other hand, the third paper toad is buried under a pile of snow. Stand right in front of the eye-catching spot and dig in with the Trio Drill. Run a drill sprint through the snow so that the occupant is ejected. Then you follow the path to a large sand wall, in which several rotating saw blades or gear-like obstacles are located.

Drill into the soft wall and move up first. The fourth paper toad is stuck between two moving obstacles. Watch their movements and wait until a sufficiently large gap opens. Then you align the drill on the toad and carry out a targeted drill sprint. You have to meet him directly so that he is detached from the wall. Be careful not to fly uncontrollably into the next saw blade after the hit. If you miss the toad, you can realign your position and make another attempt.

The Cannonball Machine

Behind the sand wall you reach an elevated platform on which stands an unusual Cannonball machine. As soon as you approach, she begins to hurl large bullets along the way. Don’t try to just walk towards it head-on. First observe the trajectory of the cannon balls and then use the Trio Glider to fly over the dangerous projectiles. As far as possible, land behind the machine and stand by its unprotected side.

Use there the Trio Hammer to destroy the construction. As a result, the obstacle disappears and the path to the north becomes free. Follow the upper path and use the Trio Glider again to get over the next series of large sting obstacles. On the opposite side, you reach an iced platform on which another paper toad slides along. Run towards him with the sprint socks and catch him by touch or a sprint jump. You saved the fifth paper toad.

The nine paper toads in bubbles

In the next area, the search focuses entirely on floating paper toads in bubbles. First, jump to the first elevated platform and use the Trio Glider to reach the opposite side. On the next platform, three bubbles hang at different heights. Start the glider and control through all three bubbles one after the other. As soon as you touch one of them, it bursts and the captured paper toad is rescued. Try to distribute your buoyancy spurts as evenly as possible so that you can also reach the last, slightly higher-floating bubble.

Follow the road north. There, the last six paper toads are also in bubbles over a larger rock and ice landscape. Use the Trio Glider again and fly as far as possible along the visible row of bubbles. It is not necessary to reach every bubble in a single flight. If necessary, land on one of the intermediate platforms, realign the group and start another gliding flight. Especially the two highest bubbles require a timely buoyancy so that you can reach them.

Once you have collected all six residents, the task display will report 14 of 14 rescued paper toads. This concludes the fourth rescue mission and Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario return to the Lakitu Info Center.

More Paper Toad Missions for Full Rescue

After these four tasks, the paper toads required for Toadette’s next work step are largely together. For our complete run, however, it is worth taking a look at the mission overview. There may already be other rescue missions available, which we have not yet completed. Paper-toad hide-and-seek game in the Twinsy Tropics and the big bubble rescue on Mount Brrr are among the important remaining tasks. They can also be started via a Lakitu Info Center without you having to walk to the respective mission area beforehand.

Twelve more paper toads in the Twinsy Tropics

For the additional search mission in the Twinsy Tropics you have to find twelve paper toads. Start directly east of the Lakitu Info Center and hit the trio Hammer against the palm tree there. A hidden resident falls out of Elder Princess Shroob. A little further east, a particularly fast yellow paper toad runs between the rocks. Follow him with the sprint socks until he jumps onto a round cardboard plate. Turn the plate over with the Trio Hammer so that the Toad is briefly stunned and you can capture it.

Then go to the western area. There is a paper toad on the sheet music blocks, another is carried by a fly guy and a blue resident runs away on the beach. Jump against the note blocks, defeat the Fly Guy and catch the fast Toad with a sprint jump. Southwest of the bridge, a resident also floats in a bubble over the water. Stand on the marked surface and use the Trio Grab to pull it over to you.

In the second part of the mission you go over the bridge to the next island. Right at the entrance, another Fly Guy carries a captured paper toad. Defeat him and then follow the way east to a small raised platform between the two bridges. From there you can reach another paper toad with the Trio Grab. A third resident hovers over the water in the north and is also rescued with the Trio Grab. West of it, a paper toad is waiting on several blocks of notes. Jump against the blocks until you collect it. The last two residents are further south: one runs over the beach, the other hides on the palm of the annular island. Once both have been found, the mission is complete.

36 paper toads in floating bubbles

The large bubble mission on Mount Brrr contains a total of 36 paper toads. Right at the beginning, ten residents hover high above the ground. Run east first, use the trio grave at the marked point and then activate the jumping plate with the sprint socks. As a result, the group is thrown in a wide arc through the first ten bubbles. In the following ice area float five more inhabitants, which you can reach through skilful slide and jump. Then use a moving platform and the Trio Grab to collect three additional bubbles.

In the middle section is a single paper toad among several gray blocks. Remove the obstacles with the Trio Hammer and then catch the occupant by a sprint jump. Then follow the path to a sand wall with a movable saw blade. Here are three more paper toads in bubbles, which you can reach with the Trio Drill. To the east of it awaits an ice sheet with five bubbles. Set the three characters on top of each other in the Trio Grab Formation and slide across the ice to reach the higher occupants.

In the next area, three bubbles float near another sand wall. Drill in and sprint towards the residents at the right moment. Follow the wall to the top and use the pads to free two more paper toads. For the last four inhabitants, you have to move through the sand wall again and get to the western side. There, a series of jumping plates leads directly through the remaining bubbles. With their rescue, all 36 paper toads are collected.

If you have actually completed all the paper Toad rescue missions, a delivery Toad will give you another special Trio Attack: the Trio Meteor. It costs 15 BP and is one of Paper Mario’s strongest attacks. Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario successively drop huge paper meteorites on their Enemies. With the right target orientation and several successful hits, a particularly large common meteorite is triggered in the end. This attack is extremely helpful for the later boss fights and should not be missing at a complete point.

The last glider sites in the Doop Doop Dunes

With Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario now mastering all Trio field actions, now is a good time to catch up on some previously unreachable collectibles. Especially in the Doop Doop Dunes and the Twinsy Tropics there are several “blocks” on high platforms that we could not reach on the first and second visit. These two areas can be connected via the green tubes, so that we can do them meaningfully in a single round of gatherings.

Start in the Toad village of the Doop Doop Dunes and leave through the eastern exit. In the following area you go to the southern center, where several low stone and cardboard outcrops are arranged like stairs. Jump to the highest reachable area and stand on the violet marker with the arrow to the right. Start the Trio Glider there and fly east to the previously unattainable elevated platform. Is there one on her? Block with a maxi-candy. This item completely restores a character’s HP and BP and is especially useful for longer boss fights.

Then return to the lower path and go to the northern part of the same area. There are two separate rock niches, which you could only see from below. In each niche, some low projections lead to a suitable bounce point for the Trio Glider. Start with the western niche and jump up the small steps. Once you have reached the violet mark, you start the glider and fly to the highest edge. It says a? Block with power mushroom jam, an item of equipment for Mario or Luigi.

You reach the eastern niche in the same way. Jump over the lower rock outcrops and then use the Trio Glider to get to the highest platform. A particularly valuable one is waiting here? Block with 500 coins. There are also three drilling sites in the immediate vicinity that you should examine with the Trio Drill. Collect the hidden objects and then check the collective display of the Doop Doop Dunes. If all the remaining blocks from our previous visits are already open, the last high-altitude sites should now be completed.

The two last high platforms of the Twinsy Tropics

Then leave the Doop Doop Dunes via the southeast path and re-enter the Twinsy Tropics. First go south over the famous cardboard bridges until you reach the transition to the larger island platforms. In the northern area of the first larger island is a high platform, which you could not climb so far. Find the near glider mark and start the Trio Glider to reach the lead. Are you waiting at the upper level? Block with three maxi mushrooms.

Then jump back to the lower beach path and follow it south. There is a second high platform, which is a little further away from the main route. Use the Trio Glider again and head straight for the lead. If necessary, you should only use your last lift shortly before landing so that Paper Mario maintains enough height. Is there another one on the platform? Block with two maxi nuts. These items can completely restore the life energy of several characters and are especially valuable in the final sections of the game.

With this we have collected the two most important previously unreachable blocks of the Twinsy Tropics. If your collective display still reports missing blocks or drilling points, you should also check the respective map areas now. Especially small areas of sand on the edge of the islands often contain buried beans, which are difficult to see from the normal game perspective. Then use one of the unlocked green tubes and return to the Sunbeam Plains. There we continue the real story.

The blocked entrance to Gloomy Woods

Back on the Sunbeam Plains you first follow the familiar path to the north. Toadette has asked us to leave for Mount Brrr again, but it soon becomes clear that the path through the Gloomy Woods can no longer be used. Several huge cardboard obstacles block the northern passage. Neither the Trio Hammer nor the Trio Drill help at this point. Even with ordinary jumps, the obstacle cannot be overcome. However, a toad nearby makes you aware that several new cardboard constructions have appeared on the level, the upper platforms of which reach partly into the clouds.

Before you look for an alternative entrance, we should collect some new items on the Sunbeam Plains. Since Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario now dominate the Trio Glider, they can also achieve several high cardboard projections here. These detours can be meaningfully combined with the search for the cloud path.

The new blocks on the Sunbeam Plains

First, go from the southern entrance of the plain north to the second large area. There are now several paper paragumbas patrolling here, which are much stronger than on our first visit. Defeat them if necessary and follow the path to the northeast. There is an elevated cardboard platform, which can be reached neither by an ordinary jump nor with the Trio Drill. Find the near mark for the Trio Glider and start a short flight to the upper surface. Are you waiting on the other side? Block with light boots DX for Mario or Luigi.

Take the boots and then return to the ground via the small protrusion. Follow the path south to the well-known red poles and use the Trio Tomb to cross the gap east. In the adjoining area you continue walking through the area with the Monty Moles and finally reach a green warp pipe. With them you can visit the Toad village again if necessary or stock up in one of the stores with healing objects.

If you have already collected all the required paper toads during the rescue missions, you can also pick up the message of the delivery toad and try out your new Trio Attack. Before entering the Dark Forest, it is worth updating your equipment one last time. The upcoming Enemies have several attacks against which we can not always compete with all three characters at the same time.

The high cardboard tower in the south

Leave the area west again with the green Warp Pipe and follow the trail to the southern part of the central Sunbeam Plains. There are now several tall cardboard constructions, which were not yet available during our first visit. Particularly striking is a very tall tower, whose topmost platform consists of a large oblique jumping surface. To reach it, you must first jump on the small protrusions on the left and then use the purple jump marker.

Stand on the arrow, point Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario east and activate the Trio Glider. Try to fly as straight as possible to the top platform of the tower. Since the landing area is well above the ground, you need to use at least one additional lift on the way. Wait until Paper Mario has dropped a bit, and only then press Y. Once you have reached enough height, head towards the sloping surface at the top of the tower.

As soon as Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario land on the platform, it turns out that it is a huge jumping plate. She catapults the entire group with great speed into the air and finally far above the cloud cover. After a short flight sequence, the three heroes land on one of the floating cloud platforms. With this, we have reached a completely new section of the Sunbeam Plains that was previously inaccessible.

Above the clouds of the Sunbeam Plains

The new region consists of numerous bright cloud areas connected like floating islands. Between them are large holes, through which you can fall back to the Sunbeam Plains at any time. However, not every one of these holes leads to the desired target. Some will only take you back to already known areas. For the way to the Dark Forest we must first get to the west and then use the right pit in the second cloud section.

Immediately after landing, you will encounter several Paper Hammer Brothers and Paper Paragumbas. These Enemies are now much stronger than the simple variants from the first chapters. Especially the Hammer brothers can become unpleasant with their quickly successive throws. Watch their movements and keep your copies of Paper Mario as complete as possible. With the Trio Shuriken you can already attack several Enemies at the same time and try out the new attack in an ordinary fight.

The first seven cloud blocks

First, examine the direct vicinity of your landing site. The first cloud platforms feature four blocks containing 50 coins, another 50 coins, two ultra-mushrooms and 100 coins. Open them one by one and then follow the northern path to a large staircase structure of clouds and cardboard. Here you can jump over several small steps to a higher platform.

In the northern area is a colored Bros.-Crystal block, which must be alternately struck by Mario and Luigi. With the right key inputs, you get a total of 150 coins. Then you go a little further north until you have a standing one? Discover block on an elevated platform. Therein lies a 1-UP DX, which you should definitely take with you. Especially in the coming boss fights, a reliable possibility for revival is particularly valuable.

In the southwestern part of this first section of clouds there is already a large pit. Don’t jump down there yet. This pit leads back to a southern section of the Sunbeam Plains and does not take you to the desired entrance of the Dark Forest. Instead, we need to reach the next cloud range via the western exit.

The Western Clouds and Paper Marios Clothing

Follow the cloud path west and enter the next area. Here the route is divided into a northern and a southwestern path. Go north first and defeat the Paper Hammer Brothers patrolling there. At the top are two? blocks. One contains glitter clothing for Paper Mario, the other 50 coins. You should check the new clothes directly in the equipment menu. Especially if you have equipped Paper Mario rather defensively so far, a change can be worthwhile.

Nearby is another pit in the clouds. However, it also does not lead to the desired forest access, but to a northern area of the Sunbeam Plains, which you already know. Therefore, return to the previous crossing and this time follow the southern cloud path. On a small lead in the southeast is another? Block with 100 coins. Take them with you and then head west to the next large area of clouds.

On this platform you can already see a striking coin trail that runs directly towards a large pit in the cloud floor. This is the desired transition to the western entrance of the Twilight Forest. Before you jump in, however, you should collect the last two treasure blocks. In the southwest corner is there? Block with 50 coins. Just north of the hole is a small raised projection with another crystal block. It contains an ultra-candy that we can use well for the coming battles.

After you open both blocks, go back to the coin trail. Follow her to the big pit and drop Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario together. During the fall, you can collect the last coins of the track. The group then lands on a high cardboard platform located directly above the western part of the Sunbeam Plains.

The western entrance to the Dark Forest

After landing, Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario are on a narrow cardboard bridge that leads to a previously unreachable section of the Sunbeam Plains. From the ground you could not enter this path before, because the high rock walls and cardboard obstacles have blocked the access. By the detour over the clouds, however, we now reach the back of the obstacle and can reach the Gloomy Woods on another way.

Before you cross the bridge, you should examine the striking burial area directly next to your landing site. Choose the trio drill and dig into the marked area. Among them are five ultra-syrup glasses that you should definitely take with you for the following fights. Especially when Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario are separated later, additional healing and BP items are particularly valuable.

Then go to the nearby storage facility and secure your progress. After that, cross the cardboard bridge to the north and enter the forest. After only a few steps, it becomes clear that the environment has changed. The trees are dark and overgrown, the ground is mostly in the shade and between the trunks move several eerie figures. Starlow also notices immediately that the forest is much more threatening than on our first visit.

This part of the twilight forest is therefore called the dark forest. Unlike in the southern village and the berry puzzles, numerous ghosts, dark caves and unusual obstacles await us here. Especially the Boos ensure that Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario can not stay together for long. Soon Luigi will be on his own and must fight through several dangerous stretches of forest without his two companions.

Preparation for the next stage

Right at the beginning of the Dark Forest is a Heart-Block. Use it and completely restore all of your group’s HP and BP. Then you check your equipment and, if necessary, put on the previously found boots, gloves or clothes. Since Mario and Paper Mario will be temporarily unavailable in this section, you should pay particular attention to Luigi’s defense and life energy. A powerful hammer is also helpful, because some Enemies in the Forest can only be reliably overcome by well-timed counterattack.

Also, check your supplies. In addition to ordinary ultra mushrooms, you should have some 1-UP mushrooms, ultra-nuts and ultra-syrup glasses. If you have already unlocked the new trio attacks, it is worth taking a look at the combat card deck before the next boss fight. Especially cards that increase your power or eliminate negative state changes will be useful later.

In the next chapter we explore the Dark Forest and see how Mario and Paper Mario are separated from the spirits. Luigi must then run alone through several temporary obstacle routes and find his two friends again. In the end, King Boo is one of the most unpleasant boss opponents of the adventure so far. Only after his defeat can we reopen the normal path through the Gloomy Woods and continue our journey to Mount Brrr.
