Barrendale Mesa

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope guide hub

Barrendale Mesa is the fifth main planet. Repair the windmill through the industrial area’s circuits and crane, then return to Momma’s Garage to face Daphne. The return visit includes thirteen Memories, three Sparks and twenty-five optional tasks.

Story walkthrough

It’s an Ill Wind that Blows — reach the industrial area

Meet Momma after the landing and clear The Desert Riptides. Riptides pursue heroes after weapon hits and use Splash attacks. Shock is their weakness. Use Edge’s Electrodash for movement damage, concentrate weapon damage on a controlled target and apply Ennui after the attacking sequence so it is not immediately canceled.

Cross the overworld using pipes, Scan and the purple bridge controls. Clear Danger, Keep Out! to deal with Spellraisers. Their long range and summoned Stooges can prolong the battle, so use Gust damage and focus one summoner until it is defeated. Luigi’s range, Mario’s reaction setup and Peach’s protection are useful roles.

First circuits and crane positions

In the industrial area, climb beside the green plate, scan the upper bridge and push the blue crate down onto its blue plate. Take the opened pipe and climb to the first circuit. Place the straight, T-shaped and remaining connector so electricity reaches the crane’s console; rotate each component until every required branch lights up.

Turn the crane fully right to make its hanging container a crossing. Beyond it, use an angled connector below and a straight connector above to power the next bridge. Carry the yellow cube across and unlock the pipe shortcut. Once that pipe makes the old bridge redundant, remove and reuse its connectors in the upper sockets.

Move the orange crate onto its plate to open the next pipe. Return to the crane and place it in the center position to reach Magikoopa Mayhem.

Magikoopa Mayhem and the upper circuit

Survive six turns with at least one hero still standing. Magikoopas resist elemental Super Effects and enhance enemy damage. Use strong physical attacks on the opening group, with Glitter to gather targets and Ennui to hold survivors after your attacks.

Indestructible portals bring enemies that can attack as soon as they emerge. Move away from marked spawn positions to the opposite platform instead of trying to destroy the portals. The reward is Gargantu-fan.

At the next circuit area, route power to the left bridge first, cross and lower the ladder. Put the crate on green to open the pipe, then reroute the straight and angled parts toward the right-hand bridge. Fetch the triangular key, load it and the crate onto the Wave lift and raise both. Use the crate on the next plate and the key at its matching device.

After the barrier is permanently open, reuse the connectors behind it for the final bridge. Keep the crate on the plate that preserves your pipe access while transporting a part on the lift. Climb the pipes to the crane arm and unfold its ladder. Finally set the crane fully left, climb the lowered ladder and cross to the windmill.

A Foul Windmill Blows

Protect the turning mechanisms for eight turns. There are four mechanisms, but only one must remain to win; each has three hit points. Hold the elevated center and use Jump Panels to move between the four outer sections.

Attack the electrical orbs when enemies occupy their marked lightning tiles. Luigi can reach useful orbs from the center, while Rabbid Luigi can use the outer Jump Panels to create angles and push enemies into reaction fire. Activate Hero Sight or Steely Stare before the displacement that should trigger it.

The yellow side begins with Riptides, orange with Magnafowls, blue later brings Spellraisers and purple brings Sea Stooges. Prioritize a summoner or a threat about to strike the last safe mechanism. Near the final turn, preserving one mechanism matters more than pursuing a perfect clear of every outer wave. Winning repairs the windmill and awards the first crystal.

Momma’s Payback — The Hunter of the Mesa

Return to Momma’s Garage for Daphne’s three-phase battle. She resists Ooze, attacks two heroes from range and benefits from high-ground cover. Use full cover and protection rather than assuming a low obstacle safely blocks her shot.

In phase one, take the right pipe route, remove Sea Stooges controlling the approach and preserve cover. A sufficiently leveled Glitter can pull Daphne from her first position; boost the attackers before committing to the damage turn.

In phase two, use the right-hand Jump Panel to approach. Peach’s Team Barrier or Ethering helps cross the Lone Wolves’ reaction lines. Use Glitter when Daphne is in range and concentrate attacks on her instead of clearing every Squashette.

In phase three, throw a starting Bob-omb into a Magnafowl and advance along the right, ending behind full cover. Daphne cannot simply be pulled down from the final position. Use the Jump Panels to flank her height and bring the close-range attacker behind the shielded angle. Keep protection or a Move Boost for a hero stranded in the open. Defeat Daphne to rescue Momma and obtain the final travel crystal.

Sparks on Barrendale Mesa

Gargantu-fan is the Magikoopa Mayhem reward. Tortured Artist rescues Scoper Master and the Secret Zone rescues Squashette Master.

All Spark locations and abilities

Side quests and hidden routes

Magikoopa Hunt

Accept the hunt north of the garage and defeat three marked Magikoopas. They resist elemental Super Effects, so use high physical damage, protection and controlled focus rather than expecting an elemental weakness.

Toadette Trouble

Use the southeastern route shared with A Lost Art: grow and stabilize the purple bridges, scan the upper ladder and slide to the marked puddle. Clear the fight to free Toadette.

Be a Depleter Defeater!

Defeat the Depleter guarding the western round weapon chest. Avoid repeatedly attacking its active counter with a wounded hero. Collect the Speedway Kaboomer reward after the clear.

Gate to the Abandoned Settlement

Clear the puddle at the settlement gate. Remove Spellraisers before their summoned enemies fill the passage, then continue into the settlement for its other quests.

Desert Highway Darkmess

Clear the Darkmess on the broken highway. Use barrels only when their displacement favors your heroes, and inspect the chase path before hitting a Riptide.

Victor’s Barrendale Mesa Invitational

At the large pool, complete Victor’s Sillyfish-throwing challenge. Sprint along a short circuit and throw when the pool highlights as valid. Return for the record reward if the basic clear leaves it unclaimed.

Tortured Artist

Speak to the artist after the windmill route. Scan the trail to the puzzle, carry the egg to its eye and use the Wave lift to move the required key to the upper device. Keep access to the return controls while transporting it. Clear Da Da in Danger, concentrating on the Darkmess Eyes and threats to the artwork, to rescue Scoper Master and open the Cannon Front approach.

Green Coin Challenge

Reach the ring through the white-pipe approach below the industrial route. Open the necessary local ladders and bridges, then follow all five groups within the timer.

Barrendale Mesa Secret Zone

Buy the Barren Key and enter the multilevel circuit puzzle. Power the first bridge, use the pipe to carry connectors between levels and recycle parts once a permanent shortcut makes an old circuit unnecessary. Route power through the upper, middle and lower sockets until the final bridge reaches Squashette Master. Return for the timed trial and Gleaming Discruptor skin.

The Brawn and the Brain

Beside the Secret Zone door, survive the eight-turn Bowser-and-Luigi battle. They start apart, so stabilize each position before forcing a reunion. Use Luigi’s range and reaction shots with Bowser’s cover destruction and Mechakoopas as distractions. Keep recovery or protection available as portals replenish Riptides, Depleters and Oozers. The rewards include Steampunk Bowzooka and Bowser’s Memory.

Blue Coin Challenge

Take the blue pipe south of the crane. Use Wave to stabilize the bridges as you follow the coin groups. Completion awards Galactic Atlas: Barrendale Mesa.

Darkmess, Uncontained

Move the crane’s container out of the passage south of the crane, then clear the exposed puddle. Take a safe side position and deal with the enemies controlling the central route.

Spellraiser Hunt

Accept the hunt near the crane and defeat three marked floating Spellraisers. Gust damage is useful, and finishing a summoner is usually better than leaving several alive with partial damage.

Worksite Hazard

Clear the puddle north of the crane. Bring protection and control for its survival objective, and stay away from portal spawn tiles instead of spending every action trying to eliminate an endless wave.

Courageous Duo

Northeast of the crane, win the fixed Mario-and-Edge battle. Edge’s Dashes and movement bonuses prepare targets for Mario’s damage and reactions. The enemy formation can vary; inspect its weaknesses before selecting Sparks. The reward includes Steampunk Dual Slinger and Mario’s Memory.

A “Fowl” Attraction

Rescue twenty-nine main-game battle Sparks, then scan the bridge to the golden pipe near the upper crane-route puzzle. Defeat the Giant Magnafowl with sustained physical damage, protection and room between heroes. Its attraction is especially dangerous when everyone can be pulled into the same close-range hit. The clear awards two Gold Prisms.

Stuck at Work

Turn the crane fully left. Fast-travel to the windmill flag, take the green pipes downward and reach the back of the hanging container. Use Wave on its crack and open the hidden chest inside.

Red Coin Challenge

Enter the ring beyond Gate to the Abandoned Settlement. Take the cannon at the start and follow the coin loop around the settlement, checking the continuation behind the white pipe rather than stopping at the first visible group.

Build Bridges

Take the southwestern pipe and drop through the unstable bridge route to the lower floor. Lower the Wave lift, load the crate and raise it. Find the yellow cube beneath the bridge and unlock the device. Alternate the purple bridge tiles to reach the raised crate and bring it onto blue, then switch the crossing again to reach the propeller chest.

Launch Site Secrets

At the northeastern launch site, take the cannon and scan for the hidden ladder down. Use the Wave block as a bridge to the yellow cube, lower the cube on that platform and place it in its device. Rebuild the upper crossing, collect the egg and slide down to the now-open throwing angle. Destroy the eye and collect the reward.

Cannon Front

After Tortured Artist, destroy the eye from the reachable ground-level throwing spot. Move the Wave block left and use the pipe to reach the crate above. Lower the ladder, ferry the crate on the block and bring it to the yellow plate. Reveal and lift the triangular key to its device, then restore the crossing before scanning the last bridge to the chest.

A Lost Art

At the southeastern headless statue, stabilize the first bridge and scan the swirl-marked wall for a ladder. Climb, scan the upper crossing and break the block beyond the slide. The first visible object is a decoy: scan the extra bridge to the other stabilizer, then retrieve the triangular key and open the white pipe. Carry the statue head beside that pipe back to its owner.

Barren Gateway

Enter Madame Bwahstrella’s local house and win the dimensional challenge. Choose Sparks for the actual enemy lineup and protect the approach instead of carrying an unrelated boss setup unchanged.

Generator Investigator

South of the windmill, scan the far end of the green push-line to reveal the missing crate. Push it down onto the green plate, collect the battery behind the opened barrier and carry it through the nearby pipe to the generator device.

The Riddle of Barrendale Mesa

Find Professor Backpack’s electrical puzzle south of the crane. Rotate the two large blocks so both incoming currents stay connected through the internal branches to the generator. Check the outer entry and exit heights first, then align the shared connection; one lit branch alone is not the completed circuit.

Finish the return visit

Complete both story quests, all twenty-five optional tasks, thirteen Memories and the Secret Zone’s timed revisit. Check Stuck at Work inside the moved container and the hidden propeller rewards at the launch site, generator and headless statue. The golden pipe needs twenty-nine Sparks in the current version. The original thirty-Spark requirement was reduced in update 1.2.2076427.
