Extra Levels

Yoshi’s Island DS guide hub

Earn eight hundred points in a world to open its Extra stage. Eight perfect main-stage scores reach that total; after the story, the Secret stage can also contribute. These White Yoshi courses have no additional character coins.

Extra 1 — Return of the Moving Chomp Rock!

Keep the Chomp Rock with you and remove obstacles before rolling it onward. Use DK for the forceful pushes and high vine route. At the pair of wooden posts, pound only far enough to line them up with the temporary red bridge. Roll the rock across and leave it on the panel before fully pounding the posts for their coins. Ride the later rock across the final spike bed.

Five flowers

  1. Up-left where the Piranha drops from the ceiling.
  2. Use DK to jump from the rock to the vines, left of the Dizzy Dandy.
  3. Reveal the hidden cloud by the first exit door’s gap.
  4. Below the second area’s first red bridge; park the rock safely and throw.
  5. Along the last Chomp Rock ride over spikes.

Red coins: Pound the early post and search above and below the first bridge. Collect beside DK’s vines, beneath the later red bridge and inside both lowered posts, then shoot for the high coins during the last rock ride.

Extra 2 — Moving Statues, Standing Statues

Test each statue ferry before the next edge: some move while Yoshi is aboard and others move when he leaves. Jump off briefly to avoid spears, then land back on the same platform. Bring down the balloon-carried Spring Ball onto the tree for the high branch. Keep the last landings clear of the Boss Bass rather than jumping low in front of its mouth.

Five flowers

  1. Shoot toward the tall tree before the second statue ferry.
  2. Use the Spring Ball on the tree to reach the left niche by the post.
  3. In the second area, right of the tall Stilt Guy before the next climb.
  4. Where the camera begins travelling downward.
  5. At the end of the final area’s first statue ride, near the fish route.

Red coins: Sweep both opening statue rides, the high tree and the foliage during the descent. In the last area, search the bottoms of the vertical ferries and shoot the red-coin Fly Guy before it leaves.

Extra 3 — Number Ball Special

Find five Number Balls and deliver each to its matching socket. Mario’s M Block opens the high door for the second ball; DK reaches the low vine branch for another. Search behind the breakable wall beneath the upper-left Middle Ring and take the lava-guarded key route for the last ball. The sockets also need different partners: DK for vines, Wario for metal crates and Peach for wind.

Five flowers

  1. In the second ball’s room above the rotating spike wheel.
  2. Reveal the cloud stairs to the high niche above the locked door.
  3. In the third ball’s room, break only the arrow-marked blocks to open the raised barrier.
  4. In the key passage, low-right above the post; let the Blargg expose a safe throwing line.
  5. Use the Spring Ball just before the fifth ball’s room.

Red coins: Search around the first two balls, the Piranha niche near the fourth and beneath its access route. Sweep the lower wind branch, lava key passage and fifth ball’s coin room before opening the last door.

Extra 4 — Let There Be Light!

Light the torches before moving between spikes and ceiling enemies. In the second area, take the left pipe first for the Piranha room and the wind route to the ceiling ice. Swallow a lit torch for fire when Bowser is unavailable. In the long ferry section, pass the early exit door and use the far-right pipe after collecting the later flower and coins. Continue through the timed blocks, Bullet Bills and statue ferries.

Five flowers

  1. On the L-shaped platform before the first door.
  2. Enter the second area’s left pipe and defeat all Piranhas.
  3. Activate the wind there, rise outside and melt the ceiling ice with torch fire.
  4. At the far-right end of the long ferry section, beyond the early exit.
  5. Below the last pink lift; Flutter Jump from the statue ferry.

Red coins: Search high in the first area, throughout the left Piranha room and above its wind route. Collect over the cannons, between the swinging spikes and on both sides of the last circular statue ferry.

Extra 5 — Quit it Already, Tap-Tap!

Start with Mario and dash over the timed blocks ahead of the Super Big Tap-Tap. Change to Peach for the vertical wind climb, then search both sides of the dirt section before entering the Mole Tank. Take its high-right side flower before committing to the maze. The final carts are chased by another giant Tap-Tap; wait for it to break the obstructing ground before taking the low flower route.

Five flowers

  1. At the end of the first switch route, jump high from the rising lift.
  2. Above-right of the door at the end of the wind climb.
  3. In the large Tap-Tap chamber, right of the downward spike arrow.
  4. As Mole Tank Yoshi, dig up-right into the side branch before the maze.
  5. On the low E-shaped platform before the goal, after the pursuer breaks the way open.

Red coins: Take five red coins during the opening switch run and five during the wind climb. The dirt and Mole Tank sections contain the other ten, including the high-right return branch and the coin before the last Middle Ring.
