World 5

Yoshi’s Island DS guide hub

Cross World 5 of Yoshi’s Island DS, using the Stork Stops to choose the baby needed for each branch. One hundred points requires twenty red coins, five flowers and thirty stars at the goal in the same clear. Character coins are separate from that score and require the matching baby.

World 5-1 — Rompin‘, Stompin‘ Chomps

Keep up with the scrolling screen while the Chomps break the ground. Use eggs on high carriers before they disappear. Change to Peach for the wind section and DK for the safe hanging vines, then choose Mario before the final chase. Break the dirt covering the last flower and character coin with eggs while running, so the Super Big Tap-Tap cannot catch you during a long stop.

Five flowers

  1. Expose it in the opening sand while avoiding the Chomps.
  2. Above the main route beyond the sand.
  3. Wait near the Stork Stop for a Chomp to break the left-hand access.
  4. Break open the dirt pocket during the final chase.
  5. At the chase’s end, turn briefly and collect with an egg before entering the goal.

Red coins: Search the high opening clouds, low gaps between Chomps and the early carriers. Sweep both heights of Peach’s wind route, then take the chase trail and the last carrier above the Spring Ball.

Character coin: Baby Mario: clear the dirt pocket during the chase with an egg and touch the coin before the pursuer catches up.

World 5-2 — Goonie Heights

Ride flying Goonies across the long gaps, transferring only when the next bird or platform is within reach. Leave tilting logs quickly and take DK into the low side maze of the second area. Later, use birds and Donut Platforms to climb to the upper pipe. Beyond it, keep riding the Goonies above the spike course instead of trying to cross on the ground.

Five flowers

  1. Ride a Goonie to the narrow opening in the first area.
  2. Take DK into the low maze of the second area.
  3. Near the end of the second area.
  4. Left of the upper exit pipe during the vertical Goonie climb.
  5. Above the final spike route before the goal.

Red coins: Search around the first Stork Stop, tilting logs and low DK maze. Sweep both sides of the vertical Goonie climb and the last aerial route over spikes.

Character coin: Baby DK: enter the low maze near the second flower and open its blocked route with DK’s attack.

World 5-3 — Spear Guys‘ Village Found!

Take the yellow platform into the second gap to reach the moving lift and key. Cross the locked hut, then use the falling rocks and rising wheel beyond it. Hit the checkered blocks to form the later platforms. In the last area, use DK’s vine to enter the hut, Mario to create the blocks and DK again to cross them. Leave with Peach for the high wind branch. Check that a Bandit has not replaced your baby with a Shy Guy before collecting the final coin.

Five flowers

  1. Inside the first unlocked hut.
  2. Above-left in the key and locked-hut area.
  3. In the last area’s vine hut; build Mario’s blocks before switching to DK.
  4. Leave that hut with Peach and ride the upper-right wind, then return.
  5. Climb from the last Middle Ring and take the right branch.

Red coins: Search the first hut, moving lift and upper-left hut route. Sweep the activated-block area and its high door, then collect both the low wind branch and upper goal approach.

Character coin: Baby Peach: continue right before the goal and enter the coin hut. Recover Peach first if the Bandit has stolen her.

World 5-4 — The Fort of Moltz the Very Goonie

Test how each ferry behaves before riding it over spikes: some move under Yoshi’s weight, while others move only when he jumps away. In the falling-rock chamber, activate the switch and wait in the left recess until the blocks settle. Take DK into the vine detour before the final ferry descents. The rocket leads to Moltz’s falling boss arena. Line Yoshi up over Moltz’s head and ground-pound, then recover onto him before the next attack. Three successful pounds win.

Five flowers

  1. Take the low platform route through the first spike section.
  2. During the first descent, briefly drop through the gap and return to the ferry.
  3. Throw right through the dirt before the last ferry of that area.
  4. After the fast falling rocks, use DK’s vine beneath the Stork Stop.
  5. On the ferry that moves without Yoshi, jump over both spiked balls and land back aboard.

Red coins: Search below the early bridges, beneath the tilting logs and along both heights of the long ferry ride. Collect in the switch-operated falling-rock chamber and the final descents, including the narrow side pocket.

Character coin: Baby Peach: beyond the weight-operated ferry, activate the wind flower’s red switch and ride the current upward.

World 5-5 — The Cave That Never Ends

Take DK into the first high branch, then Peach for the long wind descent. During the downward scroll, remain near the high side passage for the flower and Mario’s character coin; dropping to the floor leaves them out of reach. Later, release the ceiling Chomp Rock and roll it onto the switch to open the last flower chamber. Use controlled Flutter Jumps through the final rotating spike platforms.

Five flowers

  1. Between the early Piranha Plants.
  2. During the downward scroll, stay in the high side passage by the Piranha.
  3. During the following climb, search low-right among the Chomps before the camera turns.
  4. High above the right-hand main route beyond the second Middle Ring; throw an egg.
  5. Release the ceiling rock, roll it right onto the switch and shoot into the opened upper chamber.

Red coins: Search the upper DK branch and around the first lava post. Sweep both the descending wind and raised side passage, then check around the later Chomps, Spring Ball and ceiling Piranha.

Character coin: Baby Mario: go left in the high side passage near the second flower. Shoot down the concealed Stork Stop if you need to change partners.

World 5-6 — Find the Number Ball!

The hub requires four Number Balls. Use DK to reach the first vine branch, then bank an egg from the arrow to build stairs to the next ball. Search above the yellow ball for the cloud that opens another vine route. Get the key in the upper room and use Peach to reach the switch beyond the locked door. Stopping the lava opens access to the last ball. Deliver collected balls before activating the next checkpoint.

Five flowers

  1. Low-left above the lava in the first cave; collect with an egg.
  2. Enter the door above the yellow ball and melt its ice using a swallowed fire source.
  3. At the top of the key room; throw an egg.
  4. On the right of the wind shaft leading to the lava switch.
  5. After stopping the lava, take the activated platform into the right-hand branch.

Red coins: Search above and below the first falling rock, the room above the yellow ball and both vertical key-room passages. Sweep the wind shaft and the low-right space opened when the lava stops before collecting the final ball.

Character coin: Baby DK: in the last area, reveal the vine above-left and jump from the Goonie to reach the coin.

World 5-7 — Superhard Acrobatics!

Prepare egg throws from safe landings before stepping onto the moving-platform network. Beyond the second Middle Ring, use Baby Mario’s Super Star across the spike floor, then take the small clouds underneath for the flower once the transformation ends. Do not jump back onto spikes as ordinary Yoshi. After the third checkpoint, time the lifts between the Fire Bars and search the separate DK coin room before the goal.

Five flowers

  1. Bounce from the Koopa in the early spike passage and land on the orange lift.
  2. Enter the pipe before the first Middle Ring and enlarge the Gobblin with eggs.
  3. Beyond that ring, cross the Countdown Platforms and throw down-right from the Stork Stop.
  4. Follow the small clouds below the Super Star spike route.
  5. Beyond the third Middle Ring, shoot upward into the block pocket from the lift route.

Red coins: Collect four before the first Middle Ring and seven more before the second. Take two over the Super Star spikes, one on the high cloud and one from the carrier below. Three follow the third ring and two are in DK’s coin room, making twenty.

Character coin: Baby DK: beyond the second Middle Ring, enter the door above the cloud and follow the separate vine route.

World 5-8 — At Last, Bowser’s Castle!

Cross the opening platforms and take the rocket. Use the first right branch for its flower, then follow the later left loop to the exit. At the next Stork Stop, choose one of the five baby routes; each supplies the required route-specific collectibles. Mario’s route is a sprint ahead of a Super Big Tap-Tap. Take both flowers while transferring across the lifts, then collect above the last boss door. You do not need to complete all five branches in the same attempt.

Five flowers

  1. In the upper-right cloud at the rocket house.
  2. On the straight passage beyond the rocket’s first right branch.
  3. On Mario’s route, above the platform after the first series of jumps.
  4. On Mario’s route, beside the pair of adjacent lifts.
  5. In the high cloud over the final boss door.

Red coins: Collect six before the rocket and three during its course. The chosen baby route contributes eight, followed by three above-right of the last Egg Block. The running totals are six, nine, seventeen and twenty before the fight.

Character coin: There is no character coin in 5-8. World 5 therefore contains seven, rather than eight.

Baby Bowser, Bowser and Giant Bowser

Collect thirty stars before entering the boss sequence. Hit Baby Bowser with eggs while dodging his fire and landings. Against adult Bowser, use the supplied Giant Egg to knock him onto his back, then ground-pound him. Reposition before his next charge and repeat the opening.

In the last phase, the Yoshis attack together. Collect the balloon-delivered Giant Eggs and time the combined throw at Giant Bowser’s face. Move away from fire and falling rocks before preparing the next throw. Protect the full star count through all three battles if you are aiming for one hundred points.
