All 40 Banana Medals and 3,500 Coloured Bananas — Donkey Kong 64

Donkey Kong 64 guide hub

Each of the seven main worlds contains 100 coloured bananas for each Kong. Collecting seventy-five of a Kong’s colour in a world awards that Kong’s Banana Medal. Five medals per world gives thirty-five; the remaining five come from Hideout Helm’s ten machine challenges. DK Isles has no coloured bananas or medals.

How the numbers work

A single banana counts as one, a bunch as five and a balloon as ten. Only the matching Kong can collect that colour: DK yellow, Diddy red, Lanky blue, Tiny purple, Chunky green. Use that Kong’s gun on balloons. Five hundred per world across seven worlds gives 3,500. The medal requirement is seventy-five, so collecting every coloured banana is an optional extra beyond 101%.

Boss donations do not spend the collection record

Feed bananas to Scoff in the boss lobby using any combination of Kongs. The world collection totals remain recorded after donation. The requirements are 60 in Jungle Japes, 120 in Angry Aztec, 200 in Frantic Factory, 250 in Gloomy Galleon, 300 in Fungi Forest, 350 in Crystal Caves and 400 in Creepy Castle.

The five Hideout Helm medals

Disable the Blast-o-Matic by clearing two bonus barrels with each Kong. The fixed room order is DK, Chunky, Tiny, Lanky and Diddy. Each pair awards one medal; there are no coloured bananas to collect in Helm.

Find a missing medal

Open the pause menu and inspect the world’s five Kong entries. A total below seventy-five identifies the missing medal. A total from seventy-five through ninety-nine already has its medal, but is incomplete for the optional 3,500-banana goal. Use the world’s coloured-banana table to check balloons, small passages and interiors before repeatedly circling the main map.
