Pi'illo Castle — Real World

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team guide hub

In this complete solution we help you through Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the Nintendo 3DS. This section deals with the first fights and your stay at Pi’illo Castle in the real world.

After the first video sequences, your first fight starts. During the introductory battle you have to pay little attention. Attack with the A button and press it again as soon as Mario lands on the opponent’s head when he jumps. With this technique you create more damage.

Your Enemies, on the other hand, attack you in the form of several small bats that fly like bullets in your direction. Pay special attention to those who are at the bottom or at eye level of Mario. Skip this too with a press on the A button, while all other bats should fly over your head.

Fight against Gromba

After the fight and a short cutscene, follow the path, save your point and take on the La Dormita welcome quiz. In this you have to answer two questions with “right” or “wrong”. Enter one of the two fields and talk to the local male. Answers the question “The name of this island is Pi’illo Island” with “right” and “Dr.” Schlemmermehr manages the island with “wrong”.

Follow the path and hop diligently from below against all yellow blocks to grab more coins. Shortly thereafter you have to fight against a Gromba. Once again, you can optimize your attack by pressing the A button just before Mario lands with his jump on the head of the Grumbas. On the other hand, you should jump up for your own defense right when the Gromba stands in front of you and kicks a stone in your direction.

If you have won the fight, then you have to compete against two Grumbas at the same time. They will not attack you with stones, but will try to ram you. Wait again until one of the Grumbas stands in front of you and has jumped forward twice. Press the A button to jump up and ideally land on the head of the storming Grumbas. This way you can not only avoid the enemy attack, but also provide counter damage at the same time.

The Block Minigame

Next is another minigame where you can triple the amount of your coins collected so far. Alternately press the A and B buttons, but do not be too hectic. In a moderate speed, you can easily reach the maximum possible multiplier, while in the case of a speed that is too high, the danger threatens to wind up. At the top there is not only the 150 coins but also a 1-Up Mushroom DX and a normal Mushroom.

Inside the castle, you should first enter the room to your right and buy some new equipment in the lobby shop, preferably buy the cheap boats for 100 coins and sell the old shoes. If you have done all the business, then talk to Broque Monsieur in the north. The small Block allows you the wild ride on the platform. In it you can collect more coins by diligently jumping up with Luigi (B-key) or Mario (A-key).

On the other side of the tunnel is fighting again. This time you are two. Be sure to read the tutorial texts if this is your first Mario & Luigi game. In contrast to other role-playing games, the control is a bit unconventional, but basically very simple. Every time it is Mario’s turn, you confirm your actions with the A key and in the case of Luigi with the B key.

Take turns attacking Mario and Luigi one Enemies after another. As soon as one of the Grumbas stands directly in front of you and makes a jump forward, you jump into the air with Mario AND Luigi for safety by pressing the buttons A and B EQUAL TIME. With this trick, you don’t have to worry about who your Enemies are targeting.

The same technique helps you in the following room on your left: There you have to cross several stairs and abysses by jump. Do this by pressing the A and B buttons at the same time. Then you stand under the broad, yellow crystal block and jump against it from below. Then several stacked blocks appear in the colors red and green. Remember their order from the bottom up before they disappear again. You now have to “repeat” this order by multiple jumps. In other words, hop with Mario for every red crystal block you remember, and with Luigi for every green crystal block.

In the next room, you should challenge all the Grumbas you discover to fight to collect as many Experience Points as possible. Approach them and jump with Mario and Luigi at the same time on the head of a Grumba to force a pre-emptive strike. Apart from that, you have to count on all the attack patterns described so far in each battle and react accordingly. Train until you reach the next level and then increase your power.

Finally climb to the platforms above you and follow their course south. Jump to the next best platform on your left to reach the left side of the room. First drop down there and take care of the next Gromba enemies. Climb back up and march left to an exclamation point block. Jump against it and look closely at the blocks with the rotating patterns that appear: one of the patterns rotates exactly opposite to all the others. Also jump against this crystal block to open the next door.

In the next room, she encounters a small armada of Grumbas, who form a kind of cross. One could also say that this cross consists of four different “poor ones”. On the one hand, you could completely avoid a fight by diligently jumping over these “arms” or avoiding the Grumbas. However, we still advise to do all Enemies to get as many experience points as possible. An entire “arm” disappears if you have challenged or defeated a single Gromba. But beware: In the end, when no Enemies can be seen, another latecomer falls from the sky.

Train until level 3 and increase the HP this time.

If you have cleaned the area, then go to the next exclamation mark block. As soon as you jump against it from below, it splits into three parts. Fix the part that flashes briefly and follow its movements. As soon as it stands still, you jump against it. However, if you can not follow it or catch the wrong Crystal block every time, then we have a little tip that you can use on every skill test of this kind: Look rigidly with your eyes at the center of the screen and look at the said Crystal block, instead of “following” it with your gaze. If you practice this technique, you can ultimately follow much faster movements.

The following is a small cutscene, after which you look at the violet Pillow in the very north. Then you get on the one hand a few badges and on the other hand you have to face the first final opponent of the game.

Boss Fight: Smoldergeist

These are four Lodergeists that look either like a violet-colored flame or like a ball. The most important information first: You must attack a Smoldergeist only in spherical form, otherwise you will suffer damage!

In the first phase of the battle, all spirits are spherical, so you can move on to the attack at will. However, as soon as the first ghost fizzles, the other three turn into flames. Wait until you are attacked. If a kind of fog veil appears around the attacker, he will secrete several energy balls shortly afterwards. If he floats in the air, then you just do not move. If, on the other hand, he hovers at eye level, then you have to jump up with both Mario and Luigi as soon as the balls fly towards you. If you were able to avoid such an attack three times, then the smolder spirit in question will turn into a bullet and be correspondingly vulnerable.

If there is no fog in a Lodergeist attack again, then your Enemies will only secrete one energy ball and kick it either towards Mario or Luigi. In fact, it spins like a football on the ground, so your dodge jump must be a tick later compared to the other type of attack. No matter how: You have to successfully defend this attack three times so that the smolder spirit in question turns back into a bullet.

Otherwise it may happen that a ghost in spherical form attacks you. He rolls towards you until he rams you or you could hurt him with a well-placed counterjump.

After your victory against the Lodergeists you save as usual, enter the collection room and continue south after you have looked at everything. Wait and see what happens, and Mario jumps more or less automatically into the colorful fog.
