Mission ranks and the three gold E. Gadd medals are different rewards in Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. A gold mission result means three stars on that attempt. The medals on the save file track larger completion goals.
The three E. Gadd medals
- Finish the story: defeat King Boo and rescue Mario.
- Earn three stars on every mission: include the five Boo-unlocked bonus missions.
- Complete the Vault: collect all sixty-five gems and thirty-two Boos, unlock every equipment upgrade, and capture every required normal and boss ghost type from both Evershade Valley and ScareScraper.
Collecting the story ghosts alone does not finish the Vault. ScareScraper has its own ghost variants, so inspect the collection’s empty entries after clearing the campaign. Obtaining all three medals gives the save file its gold appearance.
Improve a mission’s rank
The result considers time, treasure, ghosts captured and damage taken. There is no single universal “finish in five minutes with five hundred gold” rule for every mission. A published example of a three-star run is not an exact requirement that every successful run must match.
Learn the route on the first visit, collect missing gems and Boos on a separate replay where needed, then make the efficient rank attempt. Use charged flashes to stun groups and pull against ghosts to fill the Power Surge. Fully charged captures help produce treasure. Avoid unnecessary damage and lengthy backtracking for tiny amounts of money.
When a result falls short, compare it with your previous attempt: recover valuable nearby treasure, catch an overlooked ghost or remove the slowest detour. Do not reset automatically because of one small hit; the final result uses the whole performance. Boss and randomized bonus missions need their own timing approach.
