Incognito Island is the secret seventh world of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and at the same time the last major challenge before the Heavy Mode. To unlock them, you must first collect all the required KONG Letters on the first six islands and thus open the respective K levels. In each of these six temple levels, you will receive a mysterious relic. The seventh relic comes after the victory over the End Boss on Donkey Kong Island. Once you have collected all seven relics, Incognito Island opens.
The three levels of this island are clearly different from the normal worlds. There are no KONG Letters and no checkpoints. In each level, only five Puzzle Pieces are waiting, which are not necessarily needed for completing the world. If you create all three levels, the heavy mode is unlocked. There you play with only one Kong and one Heart, there are no checkpoints and no Kong partners. For this you can choose Donkey, Diddy, Dixie or Cranky directly as a game character. Whoever then finishes all levels in heavy mode, reaches the maximum 200%.
7-1: Levitation Station
Levitation Station shows you what to expect on Incognito Island. Most platforms only emerge from nothing for a few seconds, disappear again or change their position in the middle of the jump. There is no single checkpoint – so a mistake short of the goal means back to the beginning. Dixie is especially helpful for the more difficult jumps.
- Puzzle Piece 1 — Puzzle 1 At the very beginning, several floating cuboids appear one after the other over the abyss. The first Puzzle Piece hangs below one of the early platforms. Jump from the previous platform with a roll jump below it and then try to reach the next platform. With Dixie or Diddy you can extend the jump in the air. This is one of the riskier Puzzle Pieces of the level.
- Puzzle Piece 2 Shortly afterwards, several large blocks are created from the background and form an upper and a lower path. Decide on the upper route. Stay consistently on the highest cuboids and you get directly to the second Puzzle Piece.
- Puzzle Piece 3 Now follows one of the most difficult collection points in the entire game. Over two fast moving platforms, several rows of bananas appear one after the other. You really have to collect every single banana. If you miss only one, the Puzzle Piece does not appear. Stay as centered as possible on the platforms and focus less on speed than on clean jumps.
- Puzzle Piece 4 Later you climb up a tower of floating cuboids. Along the way, several banana coins appear. Collect all coins during the ascent. If you have not missed any, the fourth Puzzle Piece appears at the top.
- Puzzle Piece 5 Shortly before the end you will encounter two owls under a low spiked ceiling. The last piece of the puzzle floats between the two opponents. Jump on the first owl, but only make a small jump so you don’t collide with the Spike Trap on the Blanket. Then spring over the second owl on solid ground.
Once you have finished Levitation Station, the two remaining levels of Incognito Island will be unlocked. You can then decide for yourself whether to tackle 7-2 or 7-3 first.
7-2: Rocket Rails
Track replacement Verquer combines two of Tropical Freeze’s most notorious game mechanics: Lorenfahrten and the Rocket Barrel. There is no checkpoint here either. Especially the second Puzzle Piece requires a very precise timing, while the last piece during the rocket flight no banana may be omitted.
- Puzzle Piece 1 — In the first section, you move across several platforms that travel up and down. The first Puzzle Piece hovers high on or above one of the higher platforms. With Dixie you can screw up, Cranky’s jump also works great.
- Puzzle Piece 2 During the mine cart ride, the rails change their height several times. At one point, the Puzzle Piece is between two rails directly above a jumping fish. Don’t just jump from the top to the bottom. Drive to the end of the track, land on the fish and jump off his head immediately. So you take the Puzzle Piece with you and then land on the next track.
- Puzzle Piece 3 After the mine cart ride you land in a small water basin. Swimming or jumping out on the left side. There is a violet jar. Run a ground pound before it and the third Puzzle Piece appears.
- Puzzle Piece 4 Shortly afterwards it goes back into a covered or closed section. The Puzzle Piece hangs visibly under a platform. Lead from the left side a wide roll jump under the platform and then pull up again. With Dixie, the job is much safer.
- Puzzle Piece 5 In the last big section you climb into the Rocket Barrel. Here appears a longer row of bananas. Collect each Banana of the formation. If you haven’t missed anything, the last Puzzle Piece will appear directly on your flight route.
The level is especially difficult because Loren and Rocket Passage are located directly behind each other. If you lose a life in the last section, rail replacement Verquer starts all over again. Therefore, play a bit more defensively and, if necessary, do without a Puzzle Piece – already collected Puzzle Pieces remain stored.
7-3: Crazy Clouds
Continue to cloudy is the last level of Incognito Island and thus the last regular level test before the heavy mode. The entire route hovers high above the clouds. Propeller platforms explode a few moments after entering, quadrants drive into the picture out of nowhere and small swirls of winds hurl Donkey Kong through the air. In the last section, there is also a fast ride on a rocket-powered aircraft.
- Puzzle Piece 1 You jump relatively early into a small swirl of wind that carries you far up. During the ascent, a number of bananas appear. Actually collect them all and the first Puzzle Piece appears automatically at the top.
- Puzzle Piece 2 After several exploding propeller platforms you reach two owls under a low spiked ceiling. The Puzzle Piece floats between the two owls. Wait until the Enemies are no longer burning. Then jump from the upper propeller block to the first owl and with the smallest possible jump to the second. So you stay below the spike trap.
- Puzzle Piece 3 Later, you will meet on the right next to an owl and several floating barbells on a violet jar. Stamp on it. Several bananas appear in rapid succession. Collect them all within the time limit and the third Puzzle Piece appears.
- Puzzle Piece 4 A little further you reach the remains of an old helicopter. On the platform or the landing site is again a violet jar. Stamp on it and quickly take the fourth Puzzle Piece with you – parts of the platform then begin to collapse.
- Puzzle Piece 5 In the last section you land on a rocket-powered aircraft. Stay attentive, because several barbed blocks appear directly on the plane. The last piece of the puzzle lies during one of these passages on your path. As soon as the corresponding spike block appears, jump over it and collect the Puzzle Piece.
Heavy mode unlocked
If you have successfully completed Levitation Station, Track Replacement Cross and Continue to Cloudy, Incognito Island is completed and you unlock the Heavy Mode. You do not have to collect the Puzzle Pieces of the three levels completely.
In heavy mode, the rules of the game change considerably. You have only one heart and each hit immediately means the loss of the attempt. Checkpoints are not available and Kong barrels no longer contain partners. For this you can choose directly before a level whether you want to play with Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong or Cranky Kong. This allows you to use her special abilities without Donkey Kong as the main character.
The KONG Letters reappear in heavy mode and are blue this time. For the 200 percent mark, however, you do not have to collect them again. It is crucial to successfully complete all levels of the game in heavy mode. Whoever manages to achieve this, finally reaches the maximum possible 200% in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
