Interlude before Chapter 5

Paper Mario guide hub

After the victory over Guy General, Chapter 4 is also completed and the fourth High Star muscular is released again. Before Mario can leave for the mysterious Lavalava Island, we take over Princess Peach as usual. Afterwards it is worth a longer round through already visited areas: Mekoopalem has new wishes, thanks to the whirlwind we can collect numerous previously unreachable Star Pieces and at the port of Toad Town finally our transport for Chapter 5 waits.

Princess Peach bakes a cake

After the end of Chapter 4, she again controls Princess Peach. Leave her room via the well-known secret passage and go down into the large lobby. This time on the lower floor you take the room on the right, where you surprisingly see Gourmet Guy again. The giant Shy Guy knows, of course, that Princess Peach should be locked up, but is again much too hungry to take care of it. When Princess Peach bakes him something delicious, he promises not to betray her and hands her the key to the castle kitchen. Leave the room and carefully sneak past the coopatrols. Pay attention to the light cones of the guards and wait a moment before crossing an intersection. The kitchen is also on the lower floor of the castle.

In the kitchen, Twink reads out the recipe for a special strawberry cake. First, sugar and eggs come into the bowl. Then you have to stir the mixture for about ten seconds by rapidly pressing A. Then add flour and butter, fill the dough into the mold and place it in the oven. Now comes the only really tricky part: the cake has to bake for about 30 seconds. A watch or stopwatch is actually helpful, because if you take it out clearly too early or too late, Gourmet Guy does not accept the result. After baking, you place the cake on the table, first give cream and then strawberries on it and bring the finished masterpiece to Gourmet Guy. If you have done everything right, he is thrilled and reveals Princess Peach the crucial information for the next chapter: The fifth High Star will be on Lavalava Island in Mt. Lavalava held and guarded by the lava piranha. Shortly after, Princess Peach is discovered and brought back to her room.

Mekoopalem’s Tasks and Other Star Pieces

Back at Mario, Muskular will give you the new Star Power Cooling, which will allow you to lower the attack power of your opponents. If you want to fully lock Shy Guy’s Toy Box, you can also drive to the red station and hit the last lever, completely closing the toy box railway line. After that we leave Toad Town for some side tasks. On the way you can meet Quizmaster Chuck again. His appearance is random; answer his question correctly and you get a Star Piece as always.

Go to Goomba Village and hit the tree next to Goombario’s house to get a gum nut. If you haven’t completed Mekoopalem’s nutcake job, bring the gum nut to Omle T. A gum nut alone is enough to bake a nut cake from it – with an additional cake mix, a giant cookie would be created instead. Bring the nut cake to Koopa clan clan Village and give it to Mekoopalem. After chapter 4, further orders are then activated: First he complains about the noise from the neighboring house. Go in next door, take Bombette as a partner and talk to the arguing Bob-ombs. Bombette provides peace and Mekoopalem rewards you with strong three star splinters. After that, he wants an old photo back. Use the warp tubes and travel to the Boo Villa; in the entrance hall you will find a boo who will give you the old photo. Bring Mekoopalem back. His next wish is a portion of Koopasta. Get a Turtley Leaf in Koopa clan clan Village and buy a dry pasta in Dust Dry Town. Since Omle T. now owns the Cookbook, she can combine both ingredients and make Koopasta from them. Mekoopalem gives you only one coin for photo and pasta, for a complete score, the tasks are of course still part of it.

On the long trails, we can simultaneously catch up on some Star Pieces that were previously unreachable without the vortex jump. In Goomba Village you will find one under a floor slab on the clearing where Mario landed at the very beginning after falling from the balcony. On the way to Koopa clan clan Village there are several more: One hides at the three conspicuous piles or candy canes on the roadside, another is near the bush, from which a Koopa clan clan clan jumped earlier. Also on the way to the former fortress of the Goomba king lies a hidden floor plate near the rock face. In Dust Dry City you will find a Star Piece on a house roof, while in the desert in front of the striking stone cactus another is hidden under the floor. Am Mt. Rugged, you can also uncover a bottom plate after the Save Block in the following section. Use the spy badges for this small round of gathering, then you will be warned as soon as there is a hidden floor plate in a screen.

Also visit Rowf’s Badges lobby shop in Toad Town. If the Badges Boots-Plus appears in its range, the purchase for 50 coins is worthwhile. The badge increases the strength of Mario’s jump attacks and becomes increasingly valuable in the coming chapters.

Kolorado, the Whale and the Journey to Lavalava Island

Once the side tasks are done, return to Toad Town and head to the port. There is already Kolorado waiting, who of course is immediately fire and flame when he hears about an unexplored tropical island and a volcano. If you have followed our solution since chapter 2 and still have the artifact from the Dust-Dry Ruins, you can now hand it over to Kolorado. In return, you get another Star Pieces.

The real problem, however, is the huge whale on the jetty. Jump on his back and do a vertebral jump so that he becomes aware of Mario. The whale complains of severe abdominal pain and asks for your help. As soon as he opens his mouth, jump in and be sure to take Watt as a partner. Inside it is pitch dark and only Watts light makes the little troublemaker visible. Follow him through the stomach until you can catch up with him and the fight against Fuzzipede begins.

Name Max. HP Attack Defense
Fuzzipede 20 3 0

Fuzzipede is not a particularly dangerous intermediate opponent at 20 HP, but has a small trick: After his attacks, he often crawls to the blanket and is hardly reachable there for many normal attacks. Watt is therefore not only important for brightening the room, but with its electric shock also one of the best ways to continuously cause damage. If you change to another partner, it becomes dark in the stomach again and fuzzipede can temporarily not be targeted meaningfully at all. His two attacks each cause 3 damage, so the fight should be over after a few rounds. Starstorm and other strong special attacks make things even faster.

After the victory, it turns out that Fuzzipede was accidentally swallowed by the whale. The whale transports Mario, Watt and Fuzzipede back outside and immediately feels much better. As a thank you, he offers Mario his help. Of course, Kolorado takes the opportunity immediately and proposes Lavalava Island as a destination. Before you leave, you can sleep in the Toad House, check your items and save them on the storage block. Then talk to the whale and confirm the journey. Mario, his partner and Kolorado get on his back and make their way across the sea to the tropical island.
