In New Super Mario Bros. U you can find a secret exit in every world and thus shorten the game significantly. On this page we have summarized all the secret exits. There are 12 secret exits in total!
World 1-2: Tilted Tunnel
Where you find the red coin ring, you can climb up using the block. Just before the Brick Blocks you can jump up again using the block. Now follow the path to the end and you will end up at the secret exit.
World 2-5: Spike’s Spouting Sands
A little further into the level there is an arrow pointing diagonally upwards on a sign. There is a hidden tube there that you should use. Here you grab the Mini Mushroom and continue to the right until you get to the Star Coin. Shortly afterwards you can go through the block as Mini Mario with an arrow pointing to the right. There is also a hidden tube here. This time this leads you to a secret exit.
World 3-Haunted House: Haunted Shipwreck
Go into the room with many invisible walls. Go right until you see a sign with an arrow. Go right and now run left back in the other direction. Take a running jump off the edge of the platform and wall jump twice to get into the alcove at the top left.
World 4-Ghost House: Swaying Ghost House
Go to the area where you use the P button to create the stone level, which you can move up by jumping. Jump up to the ceiling to reach a secret area in the middle of the room. There you will find a door that will take you to a new area. Here again you will find a P switch that you have to press. Quickly run to the right and make your way through the coins.
World 5-2: Bridge over Poisoned Waters
Using the Koopa on one peak, you can activate the Vine in the block and get to the top. Break time! Cloud Cover you will find a tube that will take you back. There are also two signposts and a coin trail. Use the levels on the left and a wall jump to get as high as possible and then use the flying squirrel form to fly to the right and reach the secret exit.
World 5-Haunted House: Which-Way Labyrinth
In the room with the five doors you have to use the door on the bottom left and follow the floating crate up. Don’t use the exit, but continue up to the ceiling to find a secret exit on the left. In the following room you drop through the first, second and third cloud floors. When you get to the bottom, go through the door and you’ll find the secret exit.
World 5-4: Painted Swampland
There is a signpost on the plateau pointing downwards. Continue on your way and take the red ring with you. At the next section of rock there is a suspicious ledge on the left that leads to a secret passage. Through two more pipes you reach the secret exit of the level.
World 5-5: Deepsea Ruins
You can find the third coin at the last rock statue that opens up the tube to the top. Don’t use the pipe, go right behind the stone head to collect the last Star Coin. The pipe behind the Star Coin takes you to a secret exit.
World 6 Tower: Grinding Stone Tower
Climb further up the tower until you reach the two circular saws that bump into each other. Below them to the right is a small green tube lying on top of a large one. Enter the small one and get the third Star Coin. Through the following pipe you will automatically reach the secret exit.
World 6-5: Walking Piranha Plants!
You can find the secret exit after the platforms that move vertically. The rocky plateau behind it houses a secret passage with a tube that will take you to the said destination.
World 7 Spirit House: Spinning Spirit House
In the main room, go down the stairs, but don’t go into the door. The left wall is again an illusion and houses a trampoline. Jump up and stay left to drop down a level and find a secret door. Follow the path down to discover an invisible block on the wall to the left that allows you to activate the P Switch. Now go to the lowest level of the room and break through the row of coins next to the door on the left. Go right into a secret area and wait until the P button’s effect wears off and the stones turn back into coins. Use the trampoline to get the last Star Coin. Leave the room through the door you just uncovered and you’ll end the level through a secret exit.
World 8-1: Meteor Moat
After the checkpoint and just before the third Star Coin you will find a P Switch on a platform. Press it to turn all coins into blocks. Then jump from stone to stone to reach a pipe. Behind the pipe you will find the secret exit.
