In New Super Mario Bros. Wii can appear up to five stars next to your memory. For all five stars, you have to virtually 100% complete the game: defeat Bowser, create all levels, collect all Star Coins and discover every secret exit.
On this page we show you exactly what you need to do for each of the five stars.
★ 1. Star – Defeat Bowser
You will get the first star once you defeat Bowser in World 8 and complete the main story.
It does not matter whether you have taken the normal path through the worlds or skipped some worlds with the help of the cannons.
★★ 2. Star – Complete all normal levels
For the second star, you must successfully complete all regular levels of worlds 1 to 8.
So it is not enough to jump over a Bill Blaster directly into a later world. Then return and finish the levels you left out before.
It is best to go through each world on the map again and check that all normal levels have been completed.
★★★ 3. Star – All Star Coins from World 1 to 8
The third star belongs to the collectors. You have to collect all 207 Star Coins from Worlds 1 to 8.
In almost every level, three Star Coins are waiting for you. Some are right on the way, others are hidden in secret rooms or can only be reached with certain power-ups.

★★★★ 4. Star – All Star Coins from World 9
After Bowser is defeated, the Secret World 9 is at your disposal. The individual levels of this bonus world are unlocked by collecting all Star Coins of the previous world.
In World 9, there are 24 Star Coins. Collect them all to get the fourth star at the save file.
This gives you a total of 231 Star Coins.

★★★★★ Star 5 — Complete New Super Mario Bros. Wii
For the fifth and final star, you must finally complete all the content of the game.
These include in particular:
- Defeating Bowser
- Complete all normal levels
- Complete all levels from World 9
- Collect all 231 Star Coins
- Find all secret exits
- Use all paths thus enabled
- Unlock all cannons and use them at least once
All 14 secret exits
A particularly common reason for a missing fifth star is a secret exit that has not yet been discovered. In total, there are 14 secret exits.

Use all six cannons
Some secret exits lead to a Bill Blaster. For a fully completed memory, you should not only unlock each of the six cannons, but also use them.
- World 1: Secret Exit in World 1-3
- World 2: Secret Exit in World 2-6
- World 3: Secret Exit in the Ghost House
- World 4: Secret Exit at the Castle
- World 5: Secret Exit at the Ghost House
- World 6: Secret Exit in World 6-6
Tip: If you already have all Star Coins and still only four stars, check the secret exits first and then use each unlocked Bill Blaster again.
Sparkling Save-File Stars
In addition to the normal five stars, there is a special award: five glittering stars.
For this, the Super Assistant or Super Guide must not appear during your entire game.
The green auxiliary block appears outside of World 9 if you fail eight times in a level. Important: You must not only not use the block – it must not appear at all.
Once the Super Guide has appeared and this has been recorded in the memory status, the stars of this memory status can no longer glitter.
Important: You can still get the normal five stars. The glitter is only an additional award.
