Tips and Tricks

New Super Mario Bros. Wii guide hub

Here are some tips and tricks for New Super Mario Bros. Wii that will make your adventure easier or just make it even more fun. Some of them are well-hidden Easter Eggs, others can give you a real advantage in certain levels;.

Mario without a hat

Do you want to play Mario without his famous red hat? No problem! Just collect 99 lives.

Once Mario has 99 lives, he takes off his hat and runs through the levels without her. If you lose a life and fall under 99 lives again, Mario puts his hat on again.

Fireworks and additional mushroom houses

The fireworks at the end of a level not only looks beautiful. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii can thus appear an additional mushroom house at the beginning of the respective world.

In single-player mode, you must rescue a captured Toad and bring it to the target flag. The last digit of the remaining time determines how many fireworks appear.

  • 1 or 2 Fireworks: Green Mushroom House with 1-Ups
  • 3 to 6 Fireworks: Red Toad House Matching Game with Items
  • 7 to 9 Fireworks: Yellow Mushroom House with a Star

The last fireworks show you with a 1-up, mushroom or star symbol, which mushroom house has appeared.

Tip: In multiplayer mode, the whole thing works a bit differently. Here, the last two digits of time must correspond, for example 11, 22, 33 or 77.

Save-File Stars

On your save file, a total of five stars can appear. They indicate how far their New Super Mario Bros. Wii has already completed.

  1. 1. Star: Defeat Bowser and finish the game.
  2. 2. Star: Complete all normal levels.
  3. 3. Star: Collects all 207 Star Coins from World 1 to 8.
  4. 4. Stern: Collects all 24 Star Coins from World 9.
  5. 5. Star: Complete all levels, find all secret targets and use all warp cannons.

In total, there are 231 Star Coins to collect.

Sparkling stars

The five stars can additionally sparkle. You must not trigger the super assistant during your game.

The green super assistant block appears when you fail eight times in a level. Once this block has appeared and the score is saved, the stars lose their special glitter effect – even if you don’t actually use the super assistant.

Important: You can still get the normal five stars. You just lose the sparkle of the stars.

Avoiding the Wind in World 2-4

In World 2-4, a strong wind regularly blows, pushing Mario to the right. There are two simple tricks:

  1. Ducken: If you stand on the ground and duck, the wind cannot push you away.
  2. Vortex jump: During jump, you can stay in the air longer with a vortex jump and use the wind specifically.

The wind is not just an obstacle. In some places you even need it to jump especially far and reach hidden areas.

Flying on Lakitu’s Cloud

You can use the clouds of the Lakitus yourself. Defeat a Lakitu by jumping on his head, for example, and then land on his cloud.

It works even easier with Yoshi: Let Yoshi eat up the Lakitu and then jump on the remaining cloud.

With the cloud you can fly freely through the air and thus, for example, reach high-altitude Star Coins. But hurry, for the cloud disappears after a short time.

Earthquake without POW block

This trick only works in multiplayer mode.

If at least two players run a Ground Pound at the same time and come up on the ground at the same time, a shock wave is triggered.

The effect is similar to a POW block and catches most opponents who are currently on the ground.

Tip: With a little practice, the common Ground Pound can be used very effectively, especially for larger opponent groups.

Jump higher with Yoshi

With Yoshi you can reach much higher platforms than it would be possible with a normal jump.

Jump first with Yoshi and use his Flutter Jump. When you reach the highest point, shake the Wii Remote and jump off Yoshi.

Mario gets an additional height. This trick is especially useful if you want to get to hard-to-reach Star Coins, hidden areas or shortcuts.

Attention: Watch where Yoshi lands afterwards. Over an abyss, the practical double jump can quickly become a farewell to your mount;.
