The Frozen Peak of Baron Brrr
Run on the icy launch planet to the little penguin and speak to him. He asks you to catch it, and then starts racing over the smooth surface. Perform a spin while running so that Mario gets into a glitter and slides over the ice much faster. If possible, steer in the same direction as the penguin and try to cut his path at the turns. With further spins you can increase your speed for a short time. If you get too fast, jump into the air and run a ground pound to stop again. Once you touch the penguin, a Launch Star appears in the middle of the planet. Before using it, you can destroy the crystals on the bottom of the ice ring and collect the contained Star Bits. Pay attention to the two rolling boulders moving along the inside. Then you use the Launch Star, which catapults you to the big iceberg.
After landing, Mario slides down an icy slope and reaches a small platform with several Goombas. Remove them with jumps and follow the individual ice and wooden platforms to the right. Avoid the ice-cold water, as Mario continuously loses health in it. Jump over the small platforms until you reach a large? coin. Through her touch, an ice cream flower appears on one of the neighboring platforms. Collect them to turn Mario into Ice Mario. In this form, you can temporarily walk over water and even create small ice platforms on the water fountains. Run first to the left over the water and jump to the first fountain shooting out of the rock face. Jump from there to the second and then to the higher platform. Make sure to perform the jumps quickly, as the ice transformation lasts only a short time. If you lose it before you reach the next safe platform, return to the ice cream flower and try again.
At the top, follow the snowy path to the right. Here you will encounter other Goombas and two large thrust walls that regularly leave the rock face. First, wait until the first wall is completely retracted, and then jump to its top. From there you reach the next pushwall and finally the higher platform. Use a backflip if necessary to reach the upper edge more easily. Now follow the path around the iceberg until you discover several small wooden platforms floating on the water. These drop slowly as soon as Mario lands on it. Therefore jumps as directly as possible from one platform to the next. On the opposite side you will find another ice cream flower that you need for the following section. First, however, you can take an optional detour: near the first ice cream flower is a staircase with a small Launch Star. With Ice Mario, you can achieve these more easily. The ring transports you to the beginning of an ice slide, on which lies a 1-Up Mushroom and a Life Mushroom. Slip down and collect both objects. The Life Mushroom increases your maximum health from three to six units and is especially helpful for the later boss fight.
Then return to the second ice cream flower and collect it. Run over the wooden platforms and hold on the opposite rock face to the right. Here are two further thrust walls, which move laterally out of the ice. Wait for the first one to retreat and jump to its top. From there you get to the next wall and finally to a small Launch Star. Activate it to reach a higher level of the iceberg. Immediately after landing you must overcome several water fountains. As long as Mario still has his ice transformation, you can create solid ice platforms on the fountains and jump from one to the next. If your transformation has already expired, return to the last ice flower location. Once you reach the highest fountain, you jump to the opposite platform and follow the path forward. At the end, you will reach the arena of Baron Brrr, which is waiting for you on an elevated ice platform.
The boss starts by throwing large chunks of ice at Mario. Run to the left and jump over the small ice platforms until you reach a cave below its arena. Destroy the crystals and collect the hidden ice flower. Then you walk across the water back to the front of the arena. As Ice Mario, you can use the two water fountains and subsequent wall jumps to the opponent’s raised platform. Once you get to the top, you should immediately focus on his attacks. Baron Brrr regularly hits the ground, creating a large blue shockwave that spreads across the platform. Jump over it in time and then approach the opponent. Perform a spin to reduce it first. In its smaller form, it is vulnerable and tries to flee from you. Follow him immediately and hit him with a second spin to cause the first damage.
After the first hit, Baron Brrr grows back to its original size and starts again with his ice chunks and shock waves. Avoid the attacks and wait until he is back in range. Use a spin again to shrink it and then hit its smaller shape. After the second successful hit, two smaller ice flames appear on the arena, which can chase Mario and freeze when touched. Eliminate these enemies as first as possible: One spin makes them vulnerable, another throws them away. Meanwhile, pay attention to the shock waves of the king, which you must continue to skip. Once the smaller enemies have disappeared, you will focus on Baron Brrr again. Reduce it one last time with a spin and hit its smaller shape before it can recover. After a total of three successful hits, the king shatters and releases the Power Star. Collect him to complete the first mission of the Freezeflame Galaxy.
Freezeflame's Blistering Core
On the icy launch planet you have to collect five blue Star Chips this time. All five are in crystals that you can destroy with a spin. Three of the crystals lie on the top of the ice ring, while the remaining two are on its bottom. First runs around the upper surface and destroys the achievable crystals. Then move over the outer edge to the bottom. There, pay attention to the two rolling boulders that can hurt you when touched and push you off the path. Once you have collected all five Star Chips, several blue Pull Stars and a big Launch Star will appear at the center of the ice ring. Target the first Pull Star with the Wii remote and hold the A button to drag Mario to the center. Then switch to the next star and finally activate the Launch Star with a spin. This catapults you to the mighty lava planet.
After your landing, you follow the narrow stone path forward. Everywhere there are red sting opponents who hurt you when touched. Since they move only slowly, you can usually easily avoid them. Alternatively, you can remove them later with fireballs or lure them into the lava. Jump over the first gaps and follow the path to a larger platform with several wooden boxes. Destroy the boxes with spins and collect the contained coins and Star Bits. Near the boxes there is also a Life Mushroom that increases your maximum health from three to six units. Take it with you before you reach the next level. Your path now leads to a large grid gate, which is initially closed. Run right past it and climb up the pole to the higher platform. Jump over the small stone surfaces and then hold on the left until you discover a large? coin. As soon as you touch it, a Fire Flower appears on a neighboring platform.
Collect the Fire Flower and return to the closed grid on the path just covered. As Fire Mario, you can throw fireballs through a movement of the Wii Remote. To the right of the grid is a single torch that you have to light. Point Mario out and throw a fireball until the flame burns. This opens the grid and you can enter the next area. If your fire transformation happens first, just get a new Fire Flower. Follow the open passage down and stay on the left. Here are two more flares, both of which must be inflamed. If necessary, collect another Fire Flower and throw one fireball at each of the two torches. As soon as both burn, a large stone staircase appears, over which you can ascend to the next level. Run up the steps and jump up at the end to change gravity and drag Mario to the opposite platform.
On the next level, more red sting enemies and fireballs regularly rising from the lava await you. Follow the stone path forward and pay attention to the places where fireballs fly across the path in high arches. Wait until the current fireball has passed before you continue running. Behind several wooden boxes is another Fire Flower you need for the climb. Collect them and run up the ascending path. You can now eliminate the red sting opponents directly with fireballs. At the upper end you reach a large stone wall, next to which are left and right two torches each. Light all four torches with your fireballs before the transformation takes place. As soon as all the torches burn, the stone wall moves up and releases a narrow shaft. Jump back and forth between the two walls until you reach the upper platform with several wall jumps. Be careful not to jump off too late as soon as Mario touches a wall, otherwise you will slip down again.
In the next section you will have to overcome several large rotating stone platforms that float immediately above the lava. These rotate as soon as Mario enters them, constantly changing the position of their surfaces. First wait until the first platform has reached a favorable position, and then jump as far as possible into its center. Let yourself rotate a bit and then jump to the next platform as soon as its surface is at approximately the same height. Be careful not to stay on a platform unnecessarily long, otherwise you can slip into the lava through the movement. After the rotating platforms you reach several small stone areas, between which more fire opponents appear. You can first delete these with a spin and then eliminate them by another attack. Follow the path up until you reach the last major area of the lava planet.
The Power Star is located behind a large grid gate on the opposite side of a lava basin. To the right of your starting point you will again find a Fire Flower. Collect them and walk to the left to the moving stone platforms that regularly travel through the lava basin. Jump onto one of these platforms and wait until it approaches the two torches to the left and right of the gate. Now you have to act as quickly as possible: Direct Mario first on the first torch and throw a fireball against it. Then turn to the second torch and ignite it before your fire transformation ends. You can take yourself from the movable platform and meet the two torches from different positions. Once both burn, the grid opens and the path to the star is released. Jump across the last stone platforms to the opposite side and collect the Power Star. You have completed the second regular mission.
Hot and Cold Collide
Follow the narrow path along the ring on the icy launch planet and avoid the fireballs, which this time regularly fly over the surface. Jump over larger obstacles and run over the edge to the bottom of the planet. There is a large crystal inside which a Launch Star is enclosed. Destroy the case with a spin and activate the Launch Star to catapult you to the next celestial body. You land on a planet where one half is completely iced, while the other half is made of glowing lava. On the icy side, the water level rises and falls regularly. The water is extremely cold and continuously removes health from Mario during prolonged contact. Therefore, if possible, stay on the raised stone platforms and wait at lower places until the water has retreated.
After landing, stay right and follow the narrow path between the ice sheets. There you will discover a small cave, which is only accessible if the water level has fallen sufficiently far. Wait for this moment and run in to collect the hidden Life Mushroom. This increases your maximum health to six units. Then return to the main path and run to the opposite side of the icy area. There is a large wall with a gravity arrow and a blue valve. Wait again for the water level to drop, and jump left onto the lower platform. Stand on the blue valve and activate it with a spin. This lowers the large wall and opens a passage to the lava side of the planet. Run through the new opening and follow the stone path up.
On the lava side the lava level also rises and falls at regular intervals. Run first to the left and waits at the flooded places until the lava retreats. As soon as the stone path becomes visible, you cross it as quickly as possible before the next lava wave arrives. On the way, you will encounter several red sting opponents, whom you best avoid large-scale. At one of the lower platforms you will discover another blue valve, which can only be reached at low lava level. Wait for the right moment, jump down and activate it with a spin. This opens a grid behind which a Fire Flower is located. Collect them and run immediately on the shortest way back to the icy half of the planet. Since the fire transformation lasts only for a limited time, you should not start any additional fights on the way. Cross the lowered wall and run to the arch on the opposite side, where two undignited torches stand.
Light both torches with your fireballs before the transformation ends. This will result in a Launch Star, which will take you to the final section of the mission. Activate it and you land on a large construction of individual ice and lava platforms floating over a black hole. To the right of your starting point is an ice cream flower that you absolutely need. Collect them and then run forward over the first lava platforms. As Ice Mario, you can enter the glowing surfaces without being damaged. Under your feet, small ice surfaces are created, on which Mario can safely walk and slide. However, make sure that the transformation disappears after a short time. Therefore, move as quickly as possible and try not to stop unnecessarily on the lava platforms.
Follow the first path to a white platform where the track seems to end. Jump up there so that gravity changes and Mario is pulled on the next path. On this page, a Goomba awaits you, which you can eliminate with a spin. Then follow the individual platforms until you reach the next ice flower. Collect them and cross the following lava platforms. Some of them move regularly to the left and right, which constantly changes the distances between the individual surfaces. Wait for larger gaps first for a favorable position and only then jumps further. Avoid jumping too far across multiple platforms at once, as you can easily guess by the changed gravity. Once you reach the end of this section, you jump again towards the next platform to change gravity once again.
The last section runs over several narrow platforms, some of which are only connected at their corners. First collect the next ice cream flower and follow the way forward. Be careful not to slip into the corners too quickly, as Mario is less precise to control than Ice Mario. If you have to brake at a narrow point, you can run a short ground pound and then carefully continue running. Towards the end you reach a higher level from which you can already see the Power Star. However, do not jump directly towards it, as there is a bigger gap between your current position and the star. Instead, stay right and follow the platforms there, which form a safe path to the opposite side. Jump over the last ice sheets and collect the Power Star to complete the third regular mission.
Conquering the Summit
The secret Power Star is reached through the first mission “The Frozen Peak of Baron Brrr”. First catch the penguin on the icy launch planet and use the released Launch Star to get to the big iceberg. Follow the familiar path there until the first? coin that makes an ice flower appear. Collect the ice flower and jump over the water fountains to the higher platform. Instead of following the usual path with the Goombas and the large push walls, this time you keep to the right. There are two more water fountains that lead you to a previously unreachable section. Jump as Ice Mario on the first fountain and then on the second. From the upper ice platform you have to make a triple jump as high as possible to reach the rock edge above it. Start a few steps, jump three times in succession in the right rhythm and perform a spin at the highest point if necessary. Once you reach the edge, you pull up and use the small Launch Star, which takes you to the other side of the iceberg.
After landing, you discover a Fire Flower that is enclosed in a crystal. Destroy the crystal with a spin and collect the flower to turn you into Fire Mario. Then follow the narrow path forward until you reach a large snowman who blocks the passage. Throw several fireballs at him to melt and clear the way. Pay attention to the ice bats that hover over the path and can freeze Mario when touched. These can also be eliminated with fireballs. Behind the first snowman, several small stone platforms lead up. Some of them are blocked by large thrust walls that regularly run out of the ice. Wait until a wall has been retracted and then jump to the free platform. At the top there is another snowman, which you also have to melt with fireballs. This will result in a Launch Star, with which you will reach the next section of the iceberg.
You land on a narrow mountain path, over which large boulders regularly roll down. First destroy the crystals near you and collect the Fire Flower hidden inside. Then run carefully forward and melt the first snowman who blocks your way. Pay attention to the boulders that come at regular intervals from an opening in the mountain wall. If possible, wait in a safe place until a boulder has rolled by before you continue. After a few turns, you reach several thrust walls that move out of the rock face. In front of them are small green platforms that disappear shortly after entering. Jump quickly from one platform to the next and wait between two push walls if necessary until the path is clear again. Above these platforms is an optional 1-Up Mushroom, which you can reach with a well-timed jump. Collect it before you climb further up.
Behind the push walls, the path leads you past other ice bats to a small raised platform. First jumps to the top of one of the push walls and from there to the higher edge. Here you will find another Fire Flower that you need for the next section. Then run the narrow mountain path further up. Once again, large boulders roll down the path, which is why you should be on the small lateral avoidance surfaces as soon as a stone approaches. At the very top is another snowman blocking the final Launch Star. Smelt it with your fireballs before the transformation ends, then activate the exposed Launch Star. If you lose the fire transformation along the way, you must return to the last Fire Flower.
The last section consists of a particularly narrow path along the icy mountain wall. First, follow the path forward and avoid the ice bat that is flying towards you. Then you reach several thrust walls arranged one above the other, which block the ascent. Wait until the walls are fully back into the rock face, then jump into the narrow opening between the two sides. Perform several quick wall jumps before the push walls move out again and push Mario into the depths. Once you reach the top edge, follow the final steps to the top of the iceberg. There is the secret Power Star, which you can collect directly. You have also found the hidden star of the Freezeflame Galaxy.
Frosty Cosmic Mario Race
This mission will be available as soon as a shadow comet appears over the Freezeflame Galaxy. You start directly on a group of floating ice platforms, which you already know from the third mission “Hot and Cold Collide”. Unlike before, this time you do not have to collect ice flowers or walk over lava. All platforms are made of ice and the track is already fully constructed. As soon as you move a few steps forward, Shadow Mario will appear, challenging you to a race to the Power Star. Run straight after the start signal and use a spin to get Mario to glitter on the ice. This makes you move much faster than in ordinary running. However, make sure that you can not brake or change direction so easily at high speed. Therefore, try to align your movements to the next platform as early as possible.
First follow the straight path and jump over the first small gaps. Some platforms are a bit further apart, so you can use a long jump there. While running, hold the Z key and then press the jump key to overcome a greater distance. After several platforms, you reach the first place where gravity changes. Jump up at the end of the path so that Mario is pulled to the opposite platform. Continue immediately after landing and stay left at the next intersection. There follows another larger gap, which you can also overcome with a long jump. Once you have landed on the next platform, you will use a spin again to get back into glitter. Avoid unnecessary stops and try to take the curves as close as possible without falling off the edge.
At the end of the second section of the path, you have to jump up again to change gravity. On the third route, the path leads you first obliquely downwards and then to several smaller ice platforms. Pay attention to the gaps between the individual surfaces and use a long jump again at longer distances. Once you have reached the last longer platform, you can already recognize the Power Star on a small, slightly remote ice surface. Run as diagonally as possible towards this platform and jump over at the right moment. A well-designed long jump allows you to shorten the last smaller platforms and get directly to the star. Once Mario reaches the Power Star before Shadow Mario, you’ve won the race. If Shadow Mario arrives first, you lose a life and have to try the challenge again. Particularly important for a fast run are the turning attacks on the longer ice surfaces and the two large jumps between the platform sections.
Purple Coins on the Summit
Freezeflame Galaxy’s final mission will be available after defeating Bowser at the center of the universe and a purple comet appearing over the galaxy. You have to collect a total of 100 Purple Coins, which are distributed over the entire iceberg. Unlike some other comet missions, there is no time limit here. However, there are exactly 100 coins, so you should not miss a single one. In addition, you will have to cross both the usual route to the arena of Baron Brrr and the secret ascent from “Conquering the Summit”. Particularly important are the hidden coins below the launch slide, in the small crevices and on the narrow platforms at the highest point of the mountain. The Power Star appears after the hundredth coin again at the beginning of the iceberg. You must therefore not only reach the summit, but then also return to the start via the planned return route.
After your landing, you first slide down the icy slope. Turn around at the bottom immediately and collect the two Purple Coins behind the slide. Then take the two coins directly in front of you. Jump onto the small wooden platform at the Toad and from there onto the first ice platform to collect two more coins. On the larger ice platform around the golden coin are four additional coins. So you should already have 10 out of 100 coins. Now activate the? coin to make the first ice flower appear. Run over the small platforms towards the flower and collect three more coins. Around the ice flower are six additional specimens. Then jump on the water fountain under the flower and from there perform a backsalt with subsequent spin to reach the last high-floating coin of this area. This puts your counter at 20 out of 100 coins.
Now collect the ice flower and run to the left over the water. Near another golden coin, on a small stone pillar, there is a Purple Coin, which you can reach with a backflip. Another coin hovers above a slightly higher pillar. Jump first on the frozen water fountain and then with a backsalt and a spin up to the coin. Then you return to the ice cream flower and get a new transformation if necessary. Now run across the water to the opposite side, where several small steps lead to a Launch Star. Collect the coin on the steps and use the Launch Star. After landing, two more coins are waiting for you to collect before the next descent. On the subsequent ice slide are two additional coins. On this occasion, also take the 1-Up Mushroom and the Life Mushroom, which are located along the slide. Once you get downstairs, your counter should display 27 coins.
Return to the first ice flower and this time walk to the usual ascent of the iceberg. On the two snowy steps in front of the water fountains lie two coins. As Ice Mario, you can freeze the fountains and jump to the higher platform. To the right of it is another coin between two water fountains, which you can collect during the jump. On the subsequent icy path, four additional coins wait. Follow the route to the two large push walls. Above both walls hovers a coin, which you can reach with a backflip and a subsequent spin. Before you move on, you should check whether you have collected all coins from this area. Your counter must now display 36 out of 100 coins.
Jump over the push walls to the next platform and collect there the single coin that floats high on the rock face. For this you can use a wall jump with subsequent spin. Then follow the narrow path and take two more coins before you reach the long, mobile ice platform. On this float five coins, which you have to collect with careful jumps. Make sure that the platform tilts depending on your position and Mario can slip. Then jump onto the snowy area at the two Toads, where another three coins are located. Run from there all the way to the left and collect the next four copies. Near it is a small crevice, into which you have to jump carefully down. Inside it hides another coin that is easily overlooked. Then use the small Launch Star to get back to the upper level. Jump onto the wooden boxes next to the large ice platform and collect the last coin of this section. So you should have a total of 53 coins.
Then follow the wooden boxes to the next ice flower and collect them. On the snowy steps behind the flower, two more coins are waiting. Then jump over the two push walls to the opposite side and take three additional coins with you. Now use the Launch Star, which will take you to the next section with several water fountains. During the flight, you can collect three more coins that are directly on your flight path. After landing, you jump over the water fountains as Ice Mario and collect two additional specimens. On the small platforms around the later arena of Baron Brrr there are a total of eleven Purple Coins. Run the platforms carefully and pays special attention to the coins that float a little off the main path above the water. In a small niche to the right of the raised arena, two more coins hide. Then you get an ice cream flower and walk over the water to the front of the large platform. With several wall jumps you get to the top and collect two more coins during the ascent. Finally, on the upper platform at the Toad, three additional coins are waiting. Once you have also collected these, your counter should display 81 out of 100 coins.
For the remaining 19 coins you have to use the secret summit path. First return to the last ice flower and walk to the two water fountains to the right of the large thrust walls. Jump to the second fountain and perform a high backsalt with subsequent twisting action to reach the upper rock edge. There is the next Purple Coin immediately before the small launch Star. Collect them and use the ring to get to the hidden mountain path. After landing, you destroy the crystals and get the Fire Flower. Melt the first snowman who blocks your way. On the small platform in front of the snowman is another coin. Then you follow the steps up and collect another coin in front of the thrust walls. Above these walls, the next coin is waiting. So you should have 85 out of 100 coins.
Now follow the secret ascent and collect the remaining coin rows along the narrow mountain paths. Behind the next snowman, a Launch Star takes you to a section of rolling boulders. Along the way, a single coin lies immediately before the first major obstacle. Further coins can be found on the small dodging platforms next to the boulders as well as on the steps that lead up between the push walls. Pay special attention to the coin behind the last big pushwall, which you can only reach with a targeted jump. Collect a new Fire Flower along the way if necessary to destroy the snowmen who block the further climb. After the last snowman, a Launch Star will take you to the top section of the iceberg. Here are four more coins directly on the narrow path before you reach the last big push walls. An additional coin is located immediately behind the first wall, while three more coins float on the final ascent to the summit. Once you reach the top, your counter must display 98 out of 100 coins.
The last two Purple Coins are not on the summit itself, but on two small, snow-covered platforms just below the edge. If necessary, talk to the Toad who will alert you to the platforms and then stand on the edge of the summit. Look down and find the first small platform. Perform a well-aligned long jump and correct your flight direction during the fall so that you land safely on the first platform. Collect the penultimate coin and then jump over to the second platform, where the hundredth Purple Coin is waiting. Once you collect them, the Power Star will appear at the original starting point of the iceberg. Use the small Launch Star near the two platforms to get you right back to the beginning of the area. There you can collect the released Power Star and complete the last mission of the Freezeflame Galaxy.
