Mushroom Kingdom – Power Moons 21–43

Super Mario Odyssey guide hub

21: Mushroom Kingdom Regular Cup

Go to the southern edge of the large mushroom pond. A Koopa is waiting there, holding a freerunning race.

The destination is located directly in front of the main entrance of the Peach’s Castle.

Run straight ahead after the start and then stay on the hill east of the mushroom pond.

Along the way you’ll find several rocket plants. Throw Cappy at the first one and run through the other plants to extend the speed boost.

Follow the hill northwards and then aim Mario directly at the Peach’s Castle.

On the straight sections you should roll or perform several long jumps in a row.

If you reach the finish line before the other Koopas, you will receive the Power Moon.

22: Mushroom Kingdom Master Cup

Speak to the Koopa south of the Mushroom Pond again. After winning the standard race, you can compete against the experts.

The destination is once again in front of the main entrance of the Peach’s Castle.

The golden Koopa is significantly faster and also uses the rocket plants.

After launching, stay on the eastern side of the mushroom pond and activate every rocket plant along the way.

Try to run as straight a line as possible over the hill. You can jump over small rocks and trees without losing your speed boost.

In the final meters, you perform a long jump towards the castle path.

If you arrive before the golden Koopa, you will receive the Power Moon.

23: Picture Match: Basically Mario

Northeast of the Peach’s Castle is a small rocket. Capture it to fly to the face puzzle.

Talk to the Toad and carefully memorize Mario’s face. After a few seconds, his eyes, eyebrows, nose, and mustache will disappear.

Capture the individual facial parts one after the other and place them as precisely as possible in their original position.

Pay particular attention to the following points:

  • The eyes are located just below the edge of the cap.
  • The eyebrows run slightly diagonally above the eyes.
  • The nose is positioned centrally above the mustache.
  • The mustache is positioned close to the nose and should not be placed too low.

You can rotate a captured item using the action keys. Press ZL to place it on the screen.

You need at least 60 points for the first Power Moon.

24: Picture Match: A Stellar Mario!

After completing the first face puzzle, talk to the Toad again.

In the second round, almost all orientation aids disappear. Only the black and white outline of Mario’s head remains visible.

You need to reach at least 80 points to get the Power Moon.

It’s best to start with the nose, as it’s located roughly in the middle of the face. Then align the mustache directly below it.

Next, place the eyes and finally the eyebrows.

Mario’s pupils are not positioned exactly in the center of his eyes. The wider white part of his eye must point upwards towards his hat.

Also try to position both eyes at the same level and as close to the nose as possible.

If you achieve at least 80 points, you will receive the second Power Moon.

25: Light from the Ceiling

Enter the Peach’s Castle and stand on the large carpet in front of the central staircase.

In the middle of the carpet is a sun.

Position Mario precisely on the sun motif and press the right stick to switch to first-person view.

Then look vertically upwards towards the bright spot on the ceiling.

Hold the camera steady, pointed at the beam of light for a few seconds.

The light gathers into a power moon, which then appears in front of Mario.

26: Loose-Tile Trackdown

Inside the mushroom palace, one floor tile is slightly higher than the other tiles.

The first bump is located to the left of the central staircase.

Perform a ground pound attack on the raised tile. This will push a new tile upwards at a different location in the castle.

In total, you need to tamp down eight floor tiles.

The bumps appear alternately on the light and dark floor tiles. Examine both the ground floor and the raised platform near the throne.

You can find other tiles at, among other places:

  • to the right of the first find spot
  • to the right and left of the throne
  • in the art of hints
  • near the two Toads
  • to the right of the central staircase

The Power Moon appears after the eighth successful ground pound.

27: Totally Classic!

Buy the Mario 64 hat and matching Mario 64 outfit in the purple section of the Crazy Cap shop.

Put on both items of clothing and go to the hill between the Peach’s Castle and the Goomba Forest.

There, a Toad guards a locked door. Dressed in full retro attire, he lets you pass.

Behind the door is the courtyard from Super Mario 64.

Go to the stone star in the middle of the fountain.

Throw Cappy at the top of the star and hold down the throw button.

After a few rotations, the power moon appears.

Don’t leave the courtyard yet, as Moon Number 28 is also located here.

28: Courtyard Chest Trap

There are a total of eight treasure chests in the retro courtyard.

You must open them in the correct order. If you make a mistake, enemies will appear and you will have to leave and re-enter the area.

Stand at the entrance facing the stone star. Then open the chests in this order:

  1. middle chest on the right side
  2. upper chest on the left side
  3. upper chest on the right side
  4. lower chest on the left side
  5. lower chest on the right side
  6. middle chest on the left side
  7. Chest in the grass on the right side
  8. Chest in the grass on the left

If you open all eight chests in the correct order, the Power Moon is in the last one.

29: Yoshi’s Feast in the Sea of Clouds

Capture Yoshi on the roof of the Peach’s Castle.

Then go to the source of the stream that flows into the large mushroom pond.

At the end of the stream is a cave with a green pipe. The entrance is blocked by a piece of fruit.

Eat the fruit with Yoshi’s tongue and enter the pipe.

In the cloud area, you must collect all the fruit. Many of them are on the normal platforms, but some are floating on tall pillars.

Use Yoshi’s flutter flight to overcome larger gaps.

You can attach Yoshi’s tongue to special white surfaces. Hold down the action button and pull yourself upwards to reach the fruit on the two tall pillars.

Once Yoshi has eaten all the fruit in the area, the Power Moon appears.

30: Sunken Star in the Sea of Clouds

This powerful moon is located in the same cloud area as moon number 29.

Turn left immediately after entering the area.

Run straight ahead from the blue edge of the starting platform into the sea of clouds.

Below the cloud cover is an invisible or barely discernible walking path.

Proceed carefully and observe Yoshi’s shadow on the ground.

The hidden path leads to a lower platform.

There, the Power Moon floats in the sea of clouds.

Then return to the launch platform and collect the fruit for Moon number 29.

31: Secret 2D Treasure

Jump into the large fountain west of the Peach’s Castle and enter the green pipe at the bottom.

You will enter a long, two-dimensional bonus area.

The black background walls move as soon as Mario enters their section. Always stay in front of the respective wall, otherwise Mario will be pushed out of the frame.

Work your way across the circular platforms and through the areas with the Goombas and Bullet Bills.

With the rotating structures, you have to constantly adjust the left stick according to the rotation so that Mario doesn’t fall off the platform.

Follow the main path until you reach a green tube near the end of the course.

Enter the tube. It leads under the launch platform into a hidden room.

There you will find the Power Moon.

32: 2D Boost from Bullet Bill

This Power Moon is located in the same fountain bonus area as Moon number 31.

Follow the two-dimensional path until you reach the cannons with the Bullet Bills.

The Power Moon hovers significantly above Mario’s normal jump height.

Wait until a Bullet Bill flies under the moon.

Jump on the opponent and press the jump button again precisely at the moment of impact.

Mario uses the Bullet Bill like a trampoline and is launched significantly higher into the air.

Steer directly into the Power Moon during the jump.

You can then continue through the bonus area as normal and collect Moon number 31.

33: Tussle in Tostarena: Rematch

Go to the tower southwest of the Peach’s Castle and enter the painting hanging inside.

Behind them awaits a more difficult revenge against the tough-as-nails king from the desert land.

In addition to the boss’s hands, Chinchos are roaming the arena. This time, there are no hearts hidden in the ice blocks.

Dodge the punches and wait until one hand remains on the ground.

Throw Cappy at the stunned hand to capture it.

Then, aim your fist directly at the boss’s face.

In later attacks, the hand moves faster and tries to hit Mario with multiple blows.

Hit the boss a total of three times. You will then receive a Multi Moon.

34: Struggle in Steam Gardens: Rematch

Go to the Goomba Forest in the north of the Mushroom Kingdom.

A large seed lies to the west of the checkpoint. Carry it to the flowerpot on the raised platform and throw it in.

Climb up the growing beanstalk. It leads to a secluded tower with a painting inside.

A rematch against Torkdrift awaits behind them.

Capture one of the mistletoe plants and stretch its legs out under the glass dome.

Hit the underside of the boss and then destroy the grey blocks in the flower field.

There are now several additional ring beams in the arena. Torkdrift can activate its shockwaves, so you must also pay attention to the red energy rings.

Dodge the attacks and repeat the process three times.

After the third hit, you receive a Multi Moon.

35: Dust-Up in New Donk City: Rematch

Go to the tower northeast of the large fountain or southeast of the hedge garden.

Jump into the painting to face off against the Mechawiggler from New Donk City once again.

Capture the Sherm tank in the arena.

Shoot the glowing segments of the Mechawiggler. In this rematch, the opponent has more hit points and two heads.

Both halves can fire lasers, fireballs, and electric projectiles simultaneously.

After you have destroyed all the glowing segments, the Mechawiggler charges up a charge attack.

Dodge both sides of the body and then capture the Sherm again.

Repeat the process a second time. After the second complete hit phase, the opponent is defeated and you receive a Multi Moon.

36: Battle in Bubblaine: Rematch

Dive to the bottom of the large mushroom pond.

Near Dorrie there is a green pipe that will take you to the rematch against Mollusque-Lanceur.

Capture the Gushen in the arena.

Since it is raining during the battle, the Gushen has an unlimited supply of water.

Fly over the boss’s head and spray water downwards to remove the lava first.

Once its head is exposed, you either continue spraying it or leave the Gushen for a ground pound.

Dodge the spiny shells and the other projectiles.

Meet Mollusque-Lanceur a total of three times. After that, you will receive a Multi Moon.

37: Blowup at Mount Volbono: Rematch

Go to the tower east of the large mushroom pond and enter the painting.

Behind them awaits a more difficult rematch against Cookatiel from the Luncheon Kingdom.

Capture a Lava Bubble and swim through the large cooking pot.

Cookatiel spits out a long trail of magma. Follow the fresh lava path upwards and jump onto the boss’s head at the end.

This time, there are additional spiky enemies swimming in the stew. Dodge them and be careful not to get thrown out of the safe lava.

After each hit, the magma path becomes longer and contains more obstacles.

Meet Cookatiel a total of three times. You will then receive a Multi Moon.

38: Rumble in Crumbleden: Rematch

To fight this battle, you must first drain the moat surrounding the Peach’s Castle.

Capture Yoshi on the roof and then head to the eastern part of the empty trench.

A large fruit blocks the entrance to a green pipe. Eat it with Yoshi’s tongue and enter.

The painting behind it leads to revenge against Ruined Dragon, the Lord of Lightning.

This time, the entire arena is covered in ice. Mario slips while running, making it harder to dodge the electric attacks.

Jump over or under the wavy lightning lines and wait until the dragon hits its head on the ground.

Pull the golden swords from Cappy’s crown.

Once all the swords are removed, perform a ground pound attack on the glowing spot.

Repeat the process three times. After the third successful hit, you will receive a Multi Moon.

39: Secret Path to Peach’s Castle!

Travel to Luncheon Kingdom to the checkpoint Remote Island in the Lava in the far northeast of the map.

Capture a Lava Bubble and swim to the island.

On the small wall at the back is a painting that will take you to the Mushroom Kingdom.

You land at the checkpoint Yoshi’s House on a floating island outside the mainland.

Throw Cappy onto the fire in the fireplace until the flames go out.

Then jump into the chimney and perform several wall jumps between the inner walls.

The Power Moon hovers at the very top.

Also, activate the checkpoint before you leave the island.

40: A Tourist in the Mushroom Kingdom!

To obtain this Power Moon, you must follow the journey of the desert wanderer.

First visit him in Sand Kingdom, and then successively in City Land, Cascade Kingdom, Luncheon Kingdom, and Moon Kingdom.

After you obtain the Power Moon “ A Tourist in Moon Kingdom!“, the tourist travels to the Mushroom Kingdom.

You can find his taxi near the Odyssey and the large fountain.

Speak to the traveler again.

As a memento of his visit, he presents you with the Power Moon.

The globetrotter then returns to the desert country.

41: Found with Mushroom Kingdom Art

The clue art of the Mushroom Kingdom hangs inside the Peach’s Castle to the right of the central staircase.

The image shows the cylindrical tower in the Cap Kingdom in front of the moon.

Travel to the Cap Kingdom and go to the Glasses Bridge northeast of the Odyssey.

Climb the southern of the two high hills by the bridge.

Stand on the eastern side close to the fence and point the camera at the cylindrical tower.

Move Mario around until the tower, moon, and fence are arranged roughly as shown in the clue art.

Perform a ground pound at this position.

Then the Power Moon appears from the Mushroom Kingdom.

42: Hat-and-Seek: Mushroom Kingdom

This Power Moon is available after you visit Peach in Moon Kingdom.

Go to the far northwest of the Mushroom Kingdom.

A lone toad with a striking hat stands between three trees.

Look at the back of his head covering. You can see two large eyes there.

A resident of the Hat Kingdom has hidden on Toad’s head.

Speak to the Toad, or rather, the hidden Bonneter.

You will receive the Power Moon as a finder’s reward.

43: Princess Peach, Home Again!

To obtain this Power Moon, you must have visited Princess Peach in all the countries where she appears after completing the main story.

Their final destination is the bell tower in Moon Kingdom.

After you speak with her there, Peach returns to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Go up the scarecrow stairs to the roof of the Peach’s Castle.

Then let yourself fall onto the balcony above the main entrance.

Princess Peach and her tiara are standing there.

Talk to Peach. She’s happy to be home and gives you the Power Moon.
