Ruined Kingdom – Power Moons 1–5

Super Mario Odyssey guide hub

01: Battle with the Lord of Lightning!

Follow the story of the crashed Odyssey, which came down the large stone staircase.

Along the way, several golden swords are stuck in the ground. Throw Cappy at the hilts to pull them out and collect some coins.

At the bottom of the stairs is a particularly large sword. Use Cappy to pull it out as well. This will reveal a power pole.

Capture the power pylon and let yourself be transported to the great battlefield. There, Ruined Dragon, the Lord of Lightning, awaits you.

Boss fight against Ruined Dragon

The dragon first shoots purple lightning bolts onto the ground. Several electrical rings appear at the points of impact, moving across the arena and sometimes tracking Mario.

Keep moving and jump over the energy rings. Shortly after, Ruined Dragon slams his head into the ground, generating more electrical shockwaves.

Wait until the electricity around its head has dissipated. Then jump onto the dragon’s head.

Throw Cappy at the golden swords holding Ruined Dragon’s crown, one after the other. Pull out all the swords and defeat the small spiky enemies that appear.

Once the crown is completely removed, a glowing spot will appear on the dragon’s head. Perform a ground pound attack there.

After each hit, Ruined Dragon’s lightning attacks become faster and more dangerous. You also have to pull more swords from his head each round.

Repeat this process a total of three times. After the third hit, the Lord of Lightning is defeated and you receive a Multi Moon.

02: In the Ancient Treasure Chest

You can collect this Power Moon even before the fight against Ruined Dragon.

Follow the Odyssey up the large stone staircase. Keep to the left.

After the first few steps, you will notice a damaged area in the masonry on the left and a narrow ledge below the normal path.

Drop down onto the small platform and jump to the thin metal edge in the wall.

Climb along the edge to the left, around the wall. You can collect several gold coins along the way.

On the back of the wall is an antique treasure chest.

Throw Cappy at the chest to open it and obtain the Power Moon.

03: Roulette Tower: Climbed

Return to the great battlefield after defeating Ruined Dragon.

A small rocket has now appeared on the west side of the arena. Capture it to fly to the Roulette Tower.

In the bonus area, you switch several times between three-dimensional platforms and two-dimensional sections on the walls.

Use the blue P-switches to stop the rotating platforms. If the blocks are in an awkward position, you can set them in motion again with the large round switch.

Stop the first platform so that Mario can jump over it to reach the next level.

In the second section, two L-shaped platforms rotate. Stop them so that their surfaces together form a staircase leading upwards to the right.

After the area with the Koopas, you’ll reach the last part of the tower. Stop the three platforms at different heights so that they form a staircase from the bottom left to the top right.

Climb up the platforms to the green tube.

The tube will take you to the top of the roulette tower. The Power Moon awaits you there.

04: Roulette Tower: Stopped

This Power Moon is located in the same roulette tower as Moon Number 3.

Follow the normal path until you reach the two-dimensional section with several red Koopas and rows of brick blocks.

Jump onto the top row of bricks and land on the red Koopa once. This will make it retreat into its shell.

Stand to the right of the tank and push it to the left. The tank will fly over the green pipe and destroy the brick blocks on the other side of the turret.

Follow the exposed path around the left outside of the tower.

There you will reach another section with two rotating platforms.

Activate the P-switches so that both platforms are as low and horizontal as possible. This will create a walkable path to the Power Moon.

Collect the Power Moon and then return to the area with the Koopas. From there, you can continue along the normal path to Power Moon 3.

05: Peach in the Ruined Kingdom

This Power Moon is only available after completing the main story.

Return to the ruined land and follow the large staircase to the power pole.

Capture the power pole and let yourself be transported back to the battlefield where you fought Ruined Dragon.

The defeated dragon still rests atop the destroyed tower.

Princess Peach and Tiara are standing on the eastern side of the arena, to the right of the dragon’s head.

Talk to Peach. After a brief conversation about Ruined Dragon and her further travel plans, she gives you the Power Moon.
