All ten paintings in Super Mario Odyssey
During your journey through Super Mario Odyssey, you will discover mysterious paintings in several kingdoms. These portals take you to isolated platforms in other kingdoms, where you can collect a Power Moon and activate a checkpoint flag.
Some paintings are initially gray or inaccessible. They become active after you complete certain story objectives or unlock the destination kingdom. For the simplest route, visit all the paintings after finishing the main story.
Important:There areten warp paintings. Their locations remain fixed, but seven painting destinations depend on which kingdoms you visit first at the two branching points in the story.
How the painting destinations are determined
The main story gives you two choices about which kingdom to visit first: Lake Kingdom or Wooded Kingdom, and later Snow Kingdom or Seaside Kingdom. Your choices determine some of the painting destinations.
These two choices determine how seven of the ten paintings connect. The following three routes stay the same in every save file:
- Cascade Kingdom → Bowser’s Kingdom
- Sand Kingdom → Metro Kingdom
- Luncheon Kingdom → Mushroom Kingdom

Cascade Kingdom
Travel to Cascade Kingdom and follow the path towards the large waterfall near the landing site. Jump into the water and swim behind the falling water to find a small hidden cave containing the first painting.
Note: This painting will remain gray until the main story is completed. This prevents you from reaching Bowser’s Castle through the portal too early.
Goal: The painting always leads to Bowser’s Kingdom. You land on a remote island above Bowser’s Castle and find Power Moon No. 43: „Secret Path to Bowser’s Castle! „
Sand Kingdom
Travel to the desert region and fast travel to the „Jaxi Ruins“ point. From there, look north to the solitary tall stone pillar next to which a Jaxi station is located. Walk or ride to the pillar and circle it. The painting is hidden on its northern back.
After crossing the area, you’ll land on a lonely rooftop in Metro Kingdom. Activate the „On a lonely rooftop“ checkpoint there and collect the Power Moon.
Goal: The painting always leads to Metro Kingdom and Power Moon No. 51: „Secret Path to New Donk City! „
Lake Kingdom
Travel to the inner courtyard in Lake Kingdom and find the small pond where Lakitu is fishing. Jump into the water and dive down to the bottom. The painting is mounted on a stone wall there.
Goal if you first visited Lake Kingdom: If you chose Lake Kingdom before Wooded Kingdom at the first fork in the road, the painting leads to Sand Kingdom. There you will receive Power Moon No. 62: „Secret Path to Tostarena! „
Goal if you first visited Wooded Kingdom: If you chose Wooded Kingdom first, the painting will instead lead you to Luncheon Kingdom to Power Moon No. 47: „Secret Path to Feast Mountain! „
Wooded Kingdom
Travel to the „Iron Road: Station 8“ checkpoint. Jump over the railing and follow the path across the yellow pole and the breakable platforms. After completing the main quest at the flower dome, a scarecrow challenge will be available here, allowing you to easily reach the station’s roof.
Follow the metal beam up to the large iron block. The painting is on the back of it. With skillful jumps, you can partially reach this area earlier, but the path is much easier after completing the story in the Wooded Kingdom.
Goal for the first Wooded Kingdom visited: If you traveled through the Wooded Kingdom before the Lake Kingdom, the painting leads to the Sand Kingdom to Power Moon No. 62.
Goal when visiting Lake Kingdom first: If you initially chose Lake Kingdom, the painting leads to Luncheon Kingdom at Power Moon No. 47.
Metro Kingdom
The painting in Metro Kingdom is easy to find. Travel to the Odyssey and walk behind the ship. Jump over the railing onto the slightly lower metal walkway. The painting is right against the wall.
Correction: The painting’s location always remains the same. Only its destination changes depending on whether you visited the Lake Kingdom or the Wooded Kingdom first.
Lake Kingdom visited first: The painting leads to the Wooded Kingdom to Power Moon No. 49: “Secret Path to Steam Gardens! ”
First visited Wooded Kingdom: The painting leads to Lake Kingdom to Power Moon No. 26: “Secret Path to Lake Lamode! ”
Snow Kingdom
The painting is located in the northeastern part of the snowy outer world. First, complete the main quests in the polar region to clear the blizzard. Then, take control of one of the wind enemies near the starting area and move the large wooden block to the high ice cliff.
Leave the enemy, jump onto the wooden block, and climb from there onto the raised ledge. You’ll find the painting on the rock face.
If you visited Snow Kingdom first: If you chose Snow Kingdom over Coastland at the second fork in the road, the painting leads to Cascade Kingdom and Power Moon No. 18: „Secret Path to the Fossil Falls!“.
Snow Kingdom visited second: In this case, the painting leads to the country you first visited at the first fork in the road. The destination is therefore either Lake Kingdom with Power Moon No. 26 or Wooded Kingdom with Power Moon No. 49.
Seaside Kingdom
You can only reach this painting after defeating the boss of the Seaside Kingdom and reactivating the bubbling fountains. Use one of the fountains to launch yourself to the top of the large glass tower in the center of the region.
Jump into the opening and dive completely down inside the tower. The painting is located underwater on the inner wall of the Glass Palace.
Seaside Kingdom visited first: If you chose Seaside Kingdom before Snow Kingdom, the painting leads to Cascade Kingdom to Power Moon No. 18.
If you visited the Seaside Kingdom second: In this case, the painting leads to the region you initially selected at the first fork in the road. Therefore, the destination is either Lake Kingdom with Power Moon No. 26 or Wooded Kingdom with Power Moon No. 49.
Luncheon Kingdom
Travel to the „Remote Island in the Lava“ fast travel point in the far northeast of the Food Kingdom. If you haven’t activated the flag yet, take control of a Lava Bubble and swim through the lava to the remote island.
Go down the small staircase on the right and follow the narrow ledge behind the island. The painting is on the lower back wall, near the fruit dispenser.
Goal: The painting always leads to the Mushroom Kingdom. You’ll land at Yoshi’s house and can collect Power Moon No. 39: „Secret Path to Peach’s Castle!“ there.
First, activate the fast travel flag at Yoshi’s house. Then, throw Cappy at the fire in the fireplace until it’s completely out. Jump into the chimney and use wall jumps to reach the top. The Power Moon awaits you there.
Correction: The painting does not lead to a separate retro world. You end up at Yoshi’s house in the Mushroom Kingdom and receive a Power Moon there – not a Star.
Bowser’s Kingdom
Travel to the „Main Courtyard – Entrance“ checkpoint in Bowser’s Kingdom. Face the large fortress and turn left. Jump over the railing and walk behind the western building. You’ll find the painting on its rear exterior wall.
Note: The painting will only become active after the main story is completed.
