Princess Peach’s escape from Knickwitz Castle
After completing the first chapter, the plot moves back to Schloss Knickwitz. Take control of Princess Peach for the first time.
Follow the two Koopa clan clan clan soldiers through the door on the right. After the next cutscene, jump down from the raised platform and run to the left. Use the first accessible door there.
Keep your left in the following rooms and go through the next door, which is on your way. The escape route is largely straight. At the end of the corridor, however, Princess Peach and her companions are met by Knickwitz’s minions. After the following events, Princess Peach loses consciousness and the action changes back to Mario.
Mario is now back on the Flipside Tower. Use the elevator on the left to go down to the second level of Flipside. Run to the left of Merlon’s house. Merlon is already waiting for you and takes you in for a conversation.
Shortly thereafter, you learn that an unknown girl has fallen from the sky. Leave the house together with Merlon and use the elevator next to the right next to the hostel. Go up to the third level.
Run to the left after getting off. There you will find the unconscious Princess Peach. Merlon suspects that only a particularly sharp dish of cook Saffron can awaken her again.
Pepper Soup and the Orange Pure Heart
For the required dish, Saffron needs a blast of fire. If you already have one, you can go directly to her. Otherwise, you will first go back to the second level and visit the shop with the mushroom shield. A fire blast costs 20 coins there.
Then go one level lower with the next elevator. Saffron’s restaurant can be recognized by the sign with the cooking pot. Enter the building, talk to the cook and give her the fire.
Saffron makes it into a pepper soup. Take the court and return to the third level via the elevators. Give Princess Peach the soup so she can regain consciousness.
After the following conversation, you find yourself again in Merlon’s house. Princess Peach decides to accompany Mario in his search for the Pure Hearts. You will also receive the Old Key from Merlon.
Princess Peach’s abilities: Princess Peach cannot switch between the 2D and 3D views. If you press the 2 button after a jump, it opens its screen and can float over larger abysses. If you press down on the ground, she also uses the umbrella as a protective shield.
Leave Merlon’s house and move back to Mario. Switches directly in front of the building into the 3D view. To the right of Merlon’s house, you now see a locked gate that is hardly visible in the normal view.
Open it with the Old Key and go through it. Stay in the third dimension and follow the narrow path to the right. The path runs from the normal camera perspective and would not be visible in 2D.
At the end of the path, you switch back to the 2D view, continue to the right and jump into the green warp pipe.
In the outskirts of Flipside you go first to the left. Already in the first larger ground depression there is an optional secret room. Drop into the pit and open the two chests there. They include the Merlon card and the Merluvlee card. Afterwards, the trampoline returns to the top.
Follow the path to the left until you reach a stone pillar and an Arrow Sign. Switch there with Mario to the 3D view. On the side of the pillar, an arrow is now visible that points to a hidden path to the right.
Follow this narrow path in the third dimension. Once you reach the other side, you first move to the left. Change to 3D again at the edge and use the stone blocks further forward as stairs. Then switch back to the 2D view.
Go to Princess Peach. Jump off the raised stone and hold down the 2 button to float with its screen to the right. Lands on the next stone and slides from platform to platform in the same way.
At the end you reach the second Heart Pillar. Switch back to Mario if necessary and insert the Orange Pure Heart into the pillar. As a result, the door to the second chapter appears on the Flipside Tower.
For the way back you can walk the entire way back. However, it is much faster with the retreat tube from your inventory, which brings you directly to the Flipside Tower.
Save there if necessary. To the right of the red door to the first chapter is now a new orange door. Go through to begin chapter 2-1.
