Flipside Arcade

Super Paper Mario guide hub

The Flipside Arcade is a hidden side area in Super Paper Mario. Here you can play four different mini-games, set up high scores and exchange won flipside chips for rare items.

Three mini-games are immediately available. The fourth game, Hammer Whacker, will not be unlocked until you find the Gold Card in Flopside.

Location of the gambling hall

The gaming hall is located in the 1. The basement of Flipside.

  1. Use the elevator and go to the 1. basement.
  2. Enter the Café The Underwhere right next to the elevator.
  3. Switch to the 3D view in the café with Mario.
  4. Runs through the now visible passageway behind the guest room.
  5. At the end of the aisle, climb into the golden warp pipe.

The Warp Pipe takes you directly to the hidden arcade. The operator of the hall is the robot E-mil.

Flipside chips

In the gambling hall is not paid with ordinary coins. For mini-games and bonuses you need so-called flipside chips.

E-mil sells the chips at a fixed exchange rate:

Flipside chips Price
1 chip 3 coins
5 chips 15 coins
10 chips 30 coins
50 chips 150 coins

You earn additional chips through good results in the mini games. For every 10,000 points you get a flipside chip.

A normal game costs ten chips. In order to win the bet back through the game result alone, you need at least 100,000 points.

Hammer Whacker costs 20 chips. Here at least 200,000 points are needed to get the bet back completely.

Don’t forget me

Cost: 10 flipside chips

Don’t Forget Me is a classic memory game. At the beginning of a round, all cards are briefly revealed. Remember as many positions as possible and then always choose two related motifs.

Point the Wii to the screen and select the cards with the button displayed.

If you find a correct pair, the two cards are removed. If you uncover two different cards, you will get a failed attempt. After three mistakes within a round, the game ends.

Once you have found all the pairs of cards, you reach the next round. A total of 30 rounds can be completed.

Points

Action Points
Finding a pair of cards 6,000 points
Uncovering an Object 3,000 points

Useful items

  • Mushroom: Removes an already caused failure attempt.
  • Stern: Shows the still hidden cards again.

Tips for a high score

  • Focus on a few pairs of cards at the beginning, instead of wanting to remember the entire field immediately.
  • Remember especially cards in the corners and on the edge. These positions are easier to find.
  • The cards can change their positions in later rounds. Therefore, pay attention to every movement.
  • Uses the star only when many cards are hidden.
  • A mushroom is especially valuable if you have already collected two failed attempts.

Villa patrol

Cost: 10 flipside chips

In Villa Patrol you must defend a villa overrun with ghosts. Point the Wii at the screen and shoot at the approaching Boos.

When a boo reaches the foreground, it attacks you and you lose a life. When all lives are exhausted, the game ends. In total, ten rounds have to be overcome.

From the second round, faster violet boos appear. Later, large boos are also added, which require several hits and can conceal smaller enemies.

Points and combinations

If you hit several opponents in succession without shooting, your hit combination increases. This gives you more points for each additional boo.

Objective Points
Ordinary or purple boo from 400 points
Ordinary boo at highest combination Up to 800 points
Great boo from 5,000 points
Big boo at highest combination Up to 10,000 points
Saving Toad 3,000 points and an object
Toad accidentally meet –1,000 points

Toads and objects

Occasionally, a boo carries a toad through the room. Shoot at the ghost without hitting the Toad. After his rescue, the Toad gives you a bonus:

  • Mushroom: Give you an extra life.
  • Flower: Activates automatic continuous fire for ten seconds.
  • Star: Temporarily stuns all visible spirits.

Tips for a high score

  • Do not shoot uncontrollably through the room. Each missed shot interrupts your combination.
  • Focus on the fast violet boos first.
  • Shoot big boos early before covering up smaller opponents.
  • A boo covering his face is preparing an attack. You can still meet it before it takes off a life.
  • Uses the automatic continuous fire to quickly search the entire screen.

Dessert Island

Cost: 10 flipside chips

At Dessert Island, your character is on a floating platform. Hold the Wii horizontally and gently tilt it left or right to move the platform.

Catch the desserts falling from above. Once you have collected the requested amount, the next round begins.

At the same time, various opponents and obstacles fall down. If you get hit or drop off the platform, you lose a life. After three lost lives, the game ends. In total, there are 20 rounds.

The game has no time limit. You don’t have to catch every dessert. Wait for a safe opportunity instead of risking a life for a single item.

Points

Object or action Points
Peachy Princess Peach 4,000 points
Orange juice 5,000 points
Fruit parfait 7,000 points
Bonus item 3,000 points
Defend opponents during the shooting attack 1,000 to 2,000 points

If you collect only the same type of dessert in a round, the score of this round is doubled.

Bonus items

  • Mushroom: Give you an extra life.
  • Flower: Lets the character rotate. In the meantime, you can throw away falling enemies.
  • Star: Removes all enemies from the screen.

Which character is best suited?

Mario and Luigi are well suited due to their small width. Princess Peach can also be controlled reliably.

Bowser takes up significantly more space on the platform. As a result, he hits many desserts, but is also more easily hit by opponents or pushed over the edge.

Tips for a high score

  • The Wii tends slightly. Strong movements quickly get the platform out of control.
  • Stay as close to the center as possible and only move when a suitable dessert falls.
  • Try to collect only one type of dessert per round to get the points bonus.
  • Ignores dangerously placed desserts. There is no penalty for missed items.
  • The flower is especially useful when several opponents fall down at the same time.

Location of the Gold Card

The Gold Card is required to unlock the fourth minigame Hammer Whacker. You can get them as soon as Flopside is accessible.

  1. Go to Flopside.
  2. Take the elevator to the 1. basement.
  3. Enter the bar The Overthere.
  4. Switch inside with Mario to the 3D view.
  5. Runs through the hidden passageway behind the guest room.
  6. Open the two treasure chests there.

In a chest is the Gold Card. The other contains the Kochdisk 5.

Then return to the Flipside arcade and talk to E-mil. After you have shown him the Gold Card, Hammer Whacker is permanently unlocked.

Hammer Whacker

Cost: 20 flipside chips

Prerequisite: Gold Card

With Hammer Whacker, your character stands with a hammer on the edge of the playing field. A Koopa clan clan clan striker shoots tanks in your direction.

Hold the Wii vertically and move it down to strike with the hammer. You have to hit every tank of a round.

If you are hit by a tank, you lose a life. After three hits, the game ends. A total of 100 rounds can be completed.

If you miss even one tank within a round, you won’t get any points for the entire round.

Points

The score depends on how close the tank gets to your character before you strike.

Assessment Points per tank
Good 7,000 points
Very good 8,000 points
Great 10,000 points
Wonderful 12,000 points
Excellent 15,000 points

Tips for a high score

  • Moves the Wii mainly from the wrist. Large movements take too long and make quick follow-up strikes more difficult.
  • First, focus on hitting each tank safely. A series of safe hits brings more points than a risky attempt at the highest rating.
  • Always beat in an even rhythm and orient yourself to the distance of the tank.
  • The speed of the shot animation of the Koopa clan clan clan striker does not reliably tell when the tank reaches your character.
  • In later rounds, several tanks follow one after the other very quickly. Returns the Wii to the starting position immediately after each stroke.

All bonuses of the gambling hall

At E-mil you can exchange your collected flipside chips for items and rare catch cards.

Premium Price Effect or specificity
Surprise box 5 chips Creates a random object when used.
Catch chart 10 chips Can capture a visible normal opponent as a catch card.
Shooting Star (item) 75 chips Do high damage to all visible opponents.
Ultra mushroom mix 150 chips Restore 50 HP.
Whacka Bump 300 chips Rare ingredient and healing object.
Susel-Wusel fishing card 500 chips Rare opponent card for the catch card directory.
MAX UP Heart 2,500 chips Permanently increases the maximum HP by 5.
Power Plus (badge) 2,500 chips Permanently increases attack power by 1.

Which premiums are worthwhile?

For the complete collection

The Susel-Wusel fishing card is required for a complete list of fishing cards. It should therefore be purchased at least once.

For difficult struggles

MAX UP Heart and Power Plus are the strongest bonuses in the arcade. Both improvements are permanent and can be purchased several times.

However, the high price of 2,500 chips each makes numerous mini-game rounds necessary. A high score at Hammer Whacker or Villa Patrol brings significantly more chips than the pure purchase with coins.

For Recipes

Whacka bump is a rare ingredient and is needed for several special dishes. Since Whacka only supplies a limited number of these items outside the arcade, the arcade is a reliable additional source of supply.

For the pits of the 100 tests

Ultra mushroom mixes are helpful, but even cooked rations in the pits are usually more effective. There they restore 50 HP each and can be prepared more cheaply.

Earn the fastest flipside chips

Which minigame brings in the most chips depends on your personal strengths:

  • Don’t forget me: Good if you can reliably remember card positions.
  • Villa Patrol: Very high scores possible through long hit combinations.
  • Dessert Island: Safe and without time limit, but usually slower.
  • Hammer Whacker: Highest point potential, but requires good timing and costs 20 chips per attempt.

For most players, villa patrol is the best mix of controllable difficulty and high chip payout. However, after some practice, Hammer Whacker can deliver much higher scores.

100 percent checklist for the gaming hall

  • Playground found at Café The Underwhere
  • Don’t forget me playing
  • Villa patrol played
  • Desert Island Played
  • Gold Card found in Flopside
  • Hammer Whacker unlocked and played
  • Susel-Wusel Catch Card purchased
  • Get at least one MAX UP Heart
  • Get at least one Power Plus
  • In all four mini-games set up their own high score

The game does not require certain minimum scores for an official completion. For a full personal 100% rating, however, it makes sense to play each mini-game at least once and buy the unique Susel-Wusel catch card.
